LOL. when has the government owning and running ANYTHING ever amounted to "win"? (see your local post office, social security office, DMV, Dept. of Social Services, public school system,..........).

there are so many other parts of the world that do the above (and more) very successfully.

If our government could afford to pump more money into their federal programs then we wouldn't have such ty services like we currently do. If we were in a surplus we could spend more lol.

I don't doubt that at all. Unfortunately, we aren't one of those countries and it's very obvious.

Ahhh... if only that were true. Orwellian to the core. The White House appointed the board of directors, which also has Union leaders on it. LOL. He doesn't want to run it but he gleefully discussed his hand-picked CEO and task force that he selected who aren't pressured to do what he wants or anything. As explained nicely by Conn Carroll:
quote:
Despite claiming that the administration 'will not interfere with or exert control over day-to-day company operations' it is instructive that this announcement is being made by the President, from the White House, and not by the company’s CEO from either the company’s Detroit headquarters or the New York bankruptcy court. Since March of this year when the White House rejected GM’s restructuring plan, their interventionist actions have spoken much louder than their hands-off rhetoric.

Then, as the NY Times pointed out today, he appointes some "not yet graduated" 31 year old Yale law student, who's never sold a car, run a business, met a payroll, or done anything outside of school other than work for political campaigns... TO LEAD THE COMPANY THROUGH BANKRUPTCY AND REMAKE IT! I mean... this can't be real.

I was being sarcastic. If GM can't compete against Honda or Toyota, then they deserve to be taken out by natural selection.

Sounds good in theory, but its way more complicated than just that. The repercussions of allowing them to totally liquidate and fold would be completely devastating to the country.

I think the government should prevent them from liquidating but not going into bankruptcy restructuring. Look at Chrysler, they declared bankruptcy only two weeks ago and they'r about to emerge out of it.

I hope they crash and burn. American cars are complete pieces of and need to be removed from the face of the Earth.

Some are, but they get a worse rap then they deserve. I've seen the death boxes people in other countries drive and I'll take American over a good portion of them. I have a Ford F-150 with the full size 4 door cab for a few years now and I've never had a problem with it... sturdy as hell and rides better than any car I've ever had.
