this is such a convoluted issue.
Islam was/is a relatively benign religion (at least compared to many other denominations), until the oil money begat western educations and contacts with a socially and economically distant populace. Any Christian or Jew would scoff at anyone condemning their sect. The money now fuels a distinct few preaching war. Islam is no different, except the numerous sects that existed are now few.
Central Asia used to be the center of Islam that eschewed war and conflict, but thats changing. Iran has an unrestful youth culture that would much rather change the country themselve than have the West it up for them.
Fundies screw things up for the rest of us, and its a shame as most can and *have* coexisted for such a long time without complete conflict. Overall worldwide crises have subsided a bit, yet the conflict that does occur, occurs againsts those standing by.
I agree with the Danish freedoms, yet I feel that any Danish Muslims should qualify that with the freedoms they are allowed by moving to Northern Europe.
the comment relating Islam to a young religion and the Crusades is particularly touching. is there a connection? did the original work? no. |

So you say that if someone in the west creates more cartoons in response to the anti-Jew ones, that's copmparable to the reactions we've seen from Islamists?

That is one of the original cartoons. If you had cared to read the thread before posting, you would have known that.

So I haven't had time to post in this forum now for a few days (I really don't have time to post now either but I really had to get this out of me :p), I have however had time to follow the events of the “Muhammad Cartoons” quite closely. I must say this is starting to amaze me more and more day for day. Watching the pictures of thousands upon thousands of people demonstrating all over the Muslim world (and in the western world too), burning embassies, changing names of pastries (wtf), etc. is shocking me more and more for every day.
Let's pause here. Let's stop and reflect on what's really going on. They are doing this for some ing cartoons? I mean really, think about it, some satirical cartoons (which 99% of the ppl demonstrating haven't even seen) are creating all this?! And not only are they some satirical cartoons, they are some cartoons from a newspaper on ing Jutland, Denmark?! I really don't know what to think about this major overreaction, it's hard to even try to understand how these people think!
To me it's becoming more and more obvious for every day that goes by that this has nothing whatsoever to do with the cartoons, but with power. A great known tactic to keep power is to hold people under fear. Many of the religious/political extremists in the middle east (and the west) use this as an excuse to hold on to their power, they create lies, over exaggerate things etc, all to polarize the (mostly illiterate) Muslim world and make extremist movements gain momentum (more Muslim extremists in the middle east/west, more anti-Muslim extremists in the west). I guess their hope is that this creates further provocation by the west so they can further deepen the rift between our worlds and strengthen their power with their extremists views.
I really hope Rasmussen's dialogues will help and make our cultures come closer, but sadly I doubt it. At the same time as I don't want any further polarization I hope that the west won't be afraid to criticise Islam in the future, cause no matter how important our multicultural society is, I still value freedom of speech higher. And I also think that these people in the west that can't tolerate to have their religion criticised don't belong to the west, and should go back to the middle east where no one ever will criticise their religion.

Totally agree I think most of them have forgotten about the cartoon or are using it as an excuse to take on their "enemies" aka the West...the more this drags out the more they look bad to me.
I was talking to a friend of mine just a bit ago and he almost hit me over this. He is a muslim and up to now I thought he had a brain. He says that no one should do this and this would be worse than painting jesus in a bad light...so I told him that that happens quite often actually most religions except Muslim have been made fun of all in good fun even at church ago I have heard the priest making some jokes. He wouldnt let go of the idea saying that his religion was greater than anyone elses....:rolleyes: |

I am Hindu and we had our Godesses depicted on CD Covers of Adult Movie DVDs, also of our Gods on shoes/footwears and beer bottles.
We just sent a polite protest letter and it was removed and case closed. |

Ah, then I get it. Frankly I don't think any kind of reaction or lack thereof from the West will change things. They'll still be mad at Denmark and Norway, and claim that Zionists are behind at the same time. At least the publication of the cartoons by foreign news papers have so far yet to manifest themselves as any kind of change in the behaviour of the herds.

we did the same thing but Rasmussen said that they can not remove the cartoons because that it is against freedom |
