Where have all the people gone from Sonic (pg. 10)

Cool man. I retract my accusation of you being "defensive or closeminded". I must have subconsciously been referring to your defiant reluctance to spin more dirty tribal in your sets...LOL..

And NO, you are not entitled to your opinion. Under any circumstances.

See you Sat...:D

LMFAO. Nice try. I don't think anyone here is suggesting that Sonic abandon the afterhours environment. Just because there are suggestions to open the club a bit earlier and move the headliner slot up a bit (as well as making other suggestions), doesn't mean the people posting here are intolerant or uneducated clubbers. I think that all I/we are suggesting is that if they want to thrive they need to adapt to an ever increasing competitive marketplace. TIL, Footwork, Gallery, The Drink, the CZ, 99 Sudbury, etc. -- these places are all competing with Sonic for many of the same people. Although the overall market for house music has probably grown a bit over the past couple of years, there is not an infinite customer base of people looking to shake-their-sh*t into the wee hours of the morning...

Anyway, I think I've said my piece and I appreciate everyone taking the time to hear me out. So, to summarize, here are a few suggestions that may or may not be worth considering (cause what the f*ck do I know?):

* Open the club at 12pm
* Bring in fresh, new openers with strong local followings
* Let openers play from 12pm to 2am
* Have headliners go on from 2am to 6am
* Let young local talent close the night out from 6am to 8am (or longer, if enough people demand it)
* Aggressively promote/communicate the new format
* Enforce a shirts-on on Saturdays policy
* Have a theme night once a month (or bi-monthly)
* Keep the f*ing lights down
* If possible, record live sets and post them on Sonic's website
* Add a new promoter or two to attract new people
* Sign co-marketing deals with a couple of smaller bars/clubs on college street (and let the young local talent that are opening or closing Sonic spin there)
* Make alcohol available (whenever possible)
* Add at least a small tent or cover to the smoking area (and a couple of heat lamps)
* Allow gum (it is getting in anyway)
* Sell fruit or energy bars
* Etc.

M.B.A in action right there :p

hi daniel,

about a third of my post was tongue in cheek, the other third sarcastic and the rest semi serious

i have no problem with a shirts-on policy...i think some of your questions should be directed to the other post that has a problem with a dress code....

but if the carwash crew have been gone for a while now, and word of mouth travels fast amongst partiers, why is the club still slow...kind of kills the arguement about the club being too gay doesn't it?

maybe what time the club opens, what they sell behind the bar and when the headliners come on are more of an issue here than the sexuality of it's customers

Hey Craig...LOL...I know where you were coming from...never thought otherwise...

You raise some good points...but the reality is that the Friday nights only started in November, and the first two were cursed...one with a licencing problem and one with the headliner unable to get in due to weather...then they cancelled Dec 22, did not have a party on the 29th, or Jan 5. So I guess there has not been enough time for the word to get out...then there was NYE...where the second night was 70% car wash crew...so that would set the image back to square one...

It took some time for this image problem to develop...I guess it will take some time for it to be turned around!

Reason being was the need for coat check to hold enough for the nights we reached capacity. Everyone who was at the club for NYE in '05 remembers the fiasco that was coatcheck when it was in the back of the main room.

question...

next time morales plays will it be a friday night or saturday?

last few times he's played the crowd has been mixed but more on the gay side...if they're trying to set a trend and seperate the nights shouldn't he be playing gaytown? :D

I doubt that you will see him at Sonic again. He cancelled his last two appearances.

Although the club continues to deny it, the word on the street is that he no longer has anything to do with the club...I have even heard that from some Sonic staffers...

Yes Jon...it was upstairs, in the back, near the bar...and it was always a disaster!

But, I don't think giving up the lounge was the best solution. It was used to showcase local talent and brought in another level of clientele.

Well Craig...as I said, its only speculation....but my guess would be, that as I recall...from an interview...Morales said his name meant money, and he realized there wasn't any there!
