He has a point here. Part of the allure of Boa was that it usually closed at 9am or later. These days, Sonic seems to be closing at 7am or 8am. The Guv closes at this time, but they're opened a lot earlier meaning you can get more hours of partying if you want to.

I know that the reason that they close the club earlier now is because people don't stay as late, but I think this new phenomenon is testimony to the fact that the club should be open earlier since people don't really stay as late on a regular basis like they used to.

Also alot of straight clientel do not wanna try Sonic because of the stigma that the club carries, they simply think that its a "Gay Club". So i think that having a shirts on policy on saturdays is an AMAZING idea.

This past Saturday I dont think I saw anyone with their shirts off. The crowd was mostly Str8, with the gay crowd that did show up (like myself) keeping their shirts on.

I think most people agree that if the opening DJ finished a littler earlier then more people would actually make it to the club.

What about opening earlier and closing at the same time? We aren't talking about opening at 9 or 10 PM, we're talking about maybe opening at midnight and having the headliner start at 2 to 3 AM. I don't know how much the bouncers and bar staff make but to open an extra couple hours earlier wouldn't add too much expense. Let a local close the place and stay open as late as you want. If you were to attract 50 to 100 people extra a week (which I think is easily doable) that would be at least a $1000 to $2000 extra just from cover.

Worth a shot in my opinion.

Also, hasn't the the competitive landscape in the city changed significantly since the good-ol-boa-days? TIL, Gallery, The Drink, Footwork, etc.

All open earlier. All have strong local talent (and, importantly, nurture local talent). All serve alcohol. All make sure the shirts stay on, for the men at least...(after looking at chinamon's recent pics from the weekend, it appears that perhaps the guv is moving a different direction...)...:eyespop:

At least we didn't have to stand next to the garbage bin on Saturday in the laneway. I like entering on Spadina much better. To me this is one improvement.

My final opinion for those who want to listen. Tired and going to sleep soon! LOL

Keep opening at 1am...No point opening any earlier without alcohol. Bring the headliner on a little earlier. maybe 3ish and BRING THE TALENT! The next few weeks look amazing. Bring on the great headliners and work on bringing just as great local talent to open, and the crowds will come...and will come earlier.

G-nite :)

Just try enforcing the SHIRTS ON policy.

It costs the club zero dollars and it would make a huge difference in people's opinions about the club and I'm sure that Saturdays will consequently fill up earlier and for longer.

In a day where everybody is cutting costs for profit, this costs nothing, so please SONIC......just try it for a couple of weeks.

you can't ship all the fags out and then complain that the place isn't as busy as it used to be :D

if the club's goal was to get rid of the carwash crew on saturdays by creating friday night then mission accomplished, but a big part of saturdays being full was the carwash crew

now the people that didn't like having shirtless guys dance near them have lots of space to themselves ;)

With all do respect, i've read every post in this thread, and Jeff's
definitely "listened". Opening earlier would only serve its purpose
if they could offer booze, no doubt in my opinion.

Plus u really have to take into acc't that being involved for so long
with the old AND new club that his perspective/opinion is justified.

Common misconception; I sleep pre-sonic, nic pre-drinks pre-sonic.

Beauty sleep gets necessary post-25.
