but as a 21 year old male, I want girls at the parties I'm at, and I don't see anything wrong with that. It's not that I care about who is at the party, it's more that I can go to other clubs in the city with quality house DJs playing that is more suited to my sexual orientation. If it's Saturday night and I have a choice between hearing a good DJ at a straight club, and a good DJ at a gay club, I'm obviously going to pick the straight club unless there is a DJ I really want to see at the gay club. This is often the scenario in the Toronto scene right now.

Which sucks, because many long last successful clubs have catered to both straight and gay, and by that i mean as either, you could pick up someone who suits your sexual orientation whenever you went. |

it does suck
When Industry was open , no one gave a about the sexual orientation it was about the music , the DJ and how fortunate T.O was to have a club like that |

industry <3
...and it's true, Industry had a cross section of everything and nobody cared. Mind you, I didn't go there often enough to remember if there were shirtless guys around or not. |

If I win the lottery, I'm buying that ugly Shoppers Drug Mart where INDUSTRY used to be, and reopening it.

House is notable for its tendency to unify dancers. People seperated on many levels (legal club age vs minors) (wealthy vs poor) (gay vs straight) (punk vs disco) found that the spirit of the music seemd to erase these boundaries in the hearts of those who where on the dance floor.

There is a difference between accepting and allowing people to be who and what they are and throwing it in other peoples faces. I know and party with many of the people who you have an issue with and my sexual orientation is a non issue with them. Why? I don't throw it in their faces and they don't throw theirs in mine. Graham (Thehighroller) and I go out and hang out at clubs all the time. We have a great time and I am proud to call him a friend. There is nothing wrong with him preferring to be around young girls when he is out at a club, and if he feels that way doesn't mean he doesn't deserve the best possible house club.
The gay crowd Stereo attracts and the gay crowd Sonic attracted in the past is very different. The Stereo crowd may have their shirts off but it is a different vibe than the one given off at Sonic at past events and for a while there the percentage of gay men was extremely high(in comparison to Stereo). Sonic has felt more like a circuit party than any event I have attended at Stereo (although I have never been to any of the "gay dj" nights there). If I wanted to attend a circuit party I would go to Fly or Sonic on a Friday night. I want to go to a club where the music is great, the sound system is world class, and people want to have fun...not do crystal and get messed and start having a shirtless orgy in the middle of the dance floor (again if I want that I would go to the "pit" at Fly).
What needs to happen is for the gay circuit queens to realize it isn't a circuit party and have some respect and consideration for the str8 crowd and then the respect will be given back. Saturdays at Sonic should not be classified as "gay" or "str8". It should be about the music and the acceptance and openness of everyone, but that goes both ways - keep your shirts on and be there for the party.
---see what happens when you're home sick - you start ranting |

A club that is about music does not NEED to put a half naked woman on its flyer.
and guess what else that can do? It can turn off your female clientele, turning your party into even more of a sausage fest.
I just think it's in poor taste, and absolutely REEKS of desperation. Do you know how many people would look at a flyer like that and go "wow, Sonic must be hurting!" which just leads them to think something must be wrong if they are changing their advertising like that and they probably wouldn't go out of their way to go to the club. |
They may not "need" to do it, but they need to market the club and they need to get people in the club.. regalrdless of what club it happens to be.
and sex sells. it's not a new concept.
Also, i think it's safe to say that every club has had a skantily clad female on a flyer at some point. Sonic included. It's even been done several times at Footwork. |

Y'all should stop sneaking into elementary school dances. I don't think the teachers will buy the "I was held back" excuse for a lot longer. |
