My roommate is a gay male.
I have many gay friends.
I help with one of the stages every year at PRIDE.
I've been to a load of gay parties.
I have promoted a couple of gay parties.
I'm cool with anyone, gay or not. I have no issues at all with other people's sexual preference. don't even care about seeing a man kiss another man... no differnt then seeing a man kiss a woman as far as I'm concerned.
But no one likes walking through a crowd at a club, minding their own business, and having a gross sweaty bare back/chest rub against them. Or having one walk by and wipe against them when they're standing or dancing.
Gay or straight, fat or skinny, male or female I don't want to have a stranger's nasty sweat and filth wiped on me... at any club. It would be gross if I was at Guv, it would be gross if it was at Footwork, and it would be gross if it was at a leatherball. |
well said...that pretty much sums up my feelings as well. I think if everyone approached it from that perspective, this thread would have ended *pages* ago :D
(Sarah in leather biker-chick attire + Prada glasses = I'm there! :p Better yet, I like Halycon's idea...and you can lead graham around by a leash, LOL) |

2007's gonna be the year I do things that I've wanted to do for years but just never have...leatherball being one of them!
I mostly just want to shop for a dominatrix outfit and then go partying in it |

In the beginning there was a club called the Paradise Garage...
The philosophy behind it was to make it all about the music experience: Best sound (Richard LONG) and lighting systems, most talented DJs (Larry Levan, Frankie Knuckles, Jim Burgess, David Morales, etc), best performers (Grace Jones, Gwen Guthrie, Pattie Labelle, Chaka Khan) and the most hard-core dancers in town made it this place their weekly ritual. The rules were simple: No alcohol, all inclusive, no dress code, NO VIPs (in a time where clubs like STUDIO 54 enforced ridiculous codes to create hype and high prices).
The club closed in 1987, but its spirit was reborn in Montreal, in a club called STEREO, a club that is hailed as one of the (if not THE) best clubs in the world.
David Morales, Nevio and partners decided to open their new venture and model it after those two clubs, as long as I can tell from their press releases and interviews. Somewhere after opening, that spirit got lost.
Now all these discussions about alcohol, dress codes, gay/straight, bla bla.. I thought there's already Guvernment, This is London, and all the other clubs in the entertainment district for that. They already have liquor licenses, dress codes, VIPs, etc. and all the things that come along such approach.
What kind of club you want to go to?
The swanky clubs with bottle service, VIP, Prada, etc.?
or the club where we can all, listen to the best sound, be part of a discerning crowd whose sole interest is the music?
You make your decision and support the club you choose.
Toronto needs a TRUE AFTERHOURS and Sonic can become that.
But management has to decide what they want to make of it.
And then the crowds will sort themselves out. |

At least the outfit will now match your personality.

Wasn't the entire point of this thread the impression that Sonic doesn't look like it's cutting it the way it is? It seems there are some people in this thread who'd rather have no Sonic at all, than Sonic with a few changes. |

Does it really? If there was a true NEED for afterhours then people would be ramming Sonic to the on the weekends. To be honest, I don't know what it's like there week in week out since I rarely go, but from the impression I'm getting in this thread is that there's not enough people. If there's not enough people going, then there's obviously is no need.
Oh, and I thought it started with Warehouse. |
