Your argument has a few holes.
First off, Hot Rods don't appeal to the lowest common denominator - unless you're implying that racing fans and or, rednecks are somehow beneath us fine sketchy clubbers...people who do drugs and listen to repeative drones for 8 hours stright don't have a right to throw stones at people who wear foam hats and watch a rocket hybrid car go from 0-40 in 3 seconds.
Secondly, Hot Rods have no connection whatsoever with an afterhours club. You could argue they are a sign of virility or masculinity, but it's a stretch. If they put a Colt or Stallion on the flyer that might allude to a gay party, but a hot rod is neither here nor there (which is probably why you'll never see it on a flyer).
Finally. Why is it so absurd to have a few women on the flyer. It might appeal to the base nature in men, but at least it's a clear sign of what to expect at a party. It's cheap, It's unimaginative, but lets not forget its purpose. It's a form of promotion. Women are sexualized and objectified everyday to sell everything from vacuum cleaners to soda. Is an after hours club somehow above this form of advertising? I doubt it.
It's an act of desperation I'll grant you - but lets not pretend like it's not commonplace. Besides, how exactly does it hurt a club that's struggling?

I don't think the people who are looking to stay out til 9am are sitting there doing a cost/benefit analysis before heading over ;)
Besides, where else are they going to go? I am hesitant to believe that an extra hour or two they get is a dealbreaker.

However, if you only have $100 to spend on a Saturday night and you end up going to Gallery, FW, or some other club because Sonic will not open until 2AM you may not have enough cash to go to Sonic. Throwing in an extra cab ride, extra coat check, extra cover charge may limit your choice to go to Sonic. If Sonic were to open up earlier and the headliner were to come one earlier I think more people would choose to make Sonic their only choice instead of the second or third choice.
What Jeff did early on when Sonic opened where he there a party before hand and that included cover and a ride to Sonic and line by pass was a great idea (similar to the Stereo Bar deal). |

You know how Firefox 2.0 has this spell-check thingy that checks your input in text areas? Try entering ‘dissapearing’. It’ll suggest words like ‘overbearingness’, ‘clearinghouses’, ‘searingly’, and ‘childrearing’ instead of the quite obvious ‘disappearing’. Seriously, what idiot codes that stuff? How do you get ‘clearinghouses’ from ‘dissapearing’? |
perhaps you mean disappearing? ;) |

Removing the lounge was by far the biggest dissapointment when Sonic opened. As I've said many times before, the lounge was often a place where even if you went to the club to see the headliner, you might just spend your night in the lounge rocking out to a DJ you hadn't even heard of before (ie what I did on NYE of 2004 and 2005).
|
I couldn't agree more. The lounge was such an awesome place to just take a break and have some new scenery. I think I spent more time down there then I did in the main room, and having the extra DJ's playing made a huge difference in attracting more people. But it's gone now, so they just have to work with what they've got. |

It was a good idea, but I think it lasted all of ONE week! The pre party was at Kabin and they went up months and months ago! |

| I'm sure I know a few girls that would be more than happy to be on a flyer for Sonic...and maybe they will be sitting in a hot rod! I think it sounds like a great idea. As long as everyone keeps their shirts on. |

I dunno, a couple of shirtless girls riding a raging hot rod (!) might help Sonic shed some of its gayness... :tongue2 |

ForGod's sake. Just enforce the "shirts on" policy.
It would feel like so much better and less uncomfortable than a carwashing Saturday night.
Can I get some feedback from SONIC if this will be an option?
It will cost the club zero dollars to try something new like this.
Have faith in my theory please. |

ONE week, wow amazing that it didn't work. Who would have thought it wouldn't be successful during its first week? Who knew?
With the success people are having throwing the parties at the Hostel at King and Spadina on Fridays why not try it again and give it a chance to work? |

A club that is about music does not NEED to put a half naked woman on its flyer.
and guess what else that can do? It can turn off your female clientele, turning your party into even more of a sausage fest.
I just think it's in poor taste, and absolutely REEKS of desperation. Do you know how many people would look at a flyer like that and go "wow, Sonic must be hurting!" which just leads them to think something must be wrong if they are changing their advertising like that and they probably wouldn't go out of their way to go to the club. |

There are no shirtless guys on Saturdays when the bookings are not gay oriented, which is the way things are going. Like I said earlier, last Saturday there was no shirtless guys...and this weekend will most likely be the same...trust me...The carwash crew will not go see Lexicon Avenue and Brad Copeland. When is someone going to listen! |
