I'm guessing there was no foul called because contact like that often happens inside the box. The ref was Mexican though so it wasn't a mistake. Good call.

I don't know what vibe you guys are getting from this cup but it seems smaller teams are no longer just here to participate but to truly bother and take the place of the established teams. I wouldn't be surprised if Panama wins.

According to a Dutch referee Brazil was ed twice this match.

Yeah, the guy nearly twisted Miranda's arm, and then there was the penalty... The defender hugged Jesus like rapture was happening

Putin had a bet on this game, that's the only logical explanation!

Good news for us, we have equal points as Germany with one match less played :D

I've only seen 45 minutes in a cafe in Barcelona so far, but on that evidence I can safely say that France will not win anything. They looked a thousand miles from a proper team. I haven't seen any of the other games, but my impression is that we're yet to see a genuinely fluid team that looks like a potential winner. Over to you, Germany and Brazil.

Well out of all of the favorites....France is the only team that's won a game so far...

Well I had to go out yesterday so I don't know what happened in the second half of the Brazil game. However, they played a lot better than France. Switzerland are ranked 6th in the world and are no mugs. France will need to change something if they're going to win the tournament. They certainly have the players though.

Germany is more of a surprise. By all accounts they were outplayed and the Mexicans had them figured out. But like I said, we're yet to see a genuine contender. If England beat Tunisia today, you'll probably decide we are the new favourites.

With the missus being Swiss, watched the Brazil game in it's entirety and have to say Brazil are a shadow of their former glory and abilities, and are going to seriously have to step it up if they want any chance of winning.

While there were moments of good flare and fluid play, I was amazed how much the swiss just shut them down, and hard. I think I watched Behrami dispossess Neymar at least 10 times before he was taken off in the 70's when then Naymar started doing the foul trap and oscar performances anytime someone got remotely close to him. They really contained him and I think Brazil were relying on him to create magic for so much of the game that it meant the Swiss were breaking up the play before it got anywhere dangerous. Granted in the last few minutes of the game it go a little bit like the alamo where the Swiss really just were holding on, and there were a good few points in the game where the Swiss made a break (shaquiri seemed to be everywhere) but had no one up front or wide to pass to. It seemed like Brazil weren't able to ratchet up to another gear once they scored and credit to the Swiss for locking them down in what looked like a stubborn performance).

I think everyone knows you can actually score against Brazil as they'll just outscore you, but unless Brazil finds another gear, I don't put them past semis. Their defense was a mess and the shove aside, the swiss goal was about as text book a corner as you'll ever see. The swiss aren't even a great striking force and given Portugal and Spain's performance, either one will shred Brazil if they all play like that again. First time Brazil have not won their opening game since 1982 and apparently they've never won a world cup when they haven't won the opening match.

Was great to see Mex win - LA turned in to a party lol, and they deserved it. Germany looked lackluster and couldn't find their groove.

France look like a mess right now and not gelling at all.

Could be one of the most wide open Wold Cups we'll see. There's a legit chance right now that Argentina, France and Germany won't make it to the quarters and with no Italy, that could mean 4 old powerhouses not in the running.

England will still it up though :toothless

Agreed I miss the old school Brazilian squad, but I guess those days are over.

Welp, England concede the most pointless penalty of the tourney so far.

The probability of England being crippled by a terrible VAR decision at some point in this tournament is 1.

We look okay. I'm not convinced by our passing out from the back. Instead of twatting the ball forward from defence, we play three passes around the back four before one of our players remembers he's English and not Spanish, and then panics and twats the ball forward anyway.

And I don't care how many six yard tap ins he's scored from Sane crosses for Man City this season, Sterling is ing terrible. He can't finish for toffee and he is incapable of going shoulder to shoulder with a full back. I'd much rather see Rashford in that position, flaky as he is.

As kids we learned to cover both goalposts with corners...

Both Belgium and England will be happy with the results.
