I was pretty disappointed when the equalizing goal was scored in injury time, as it seemed all the pressure was back on for the inevitable poor fourteen in a England penalty shootout, but the 2nd half of extra time was exactly the right pressure level to scare Columbia.
Winning aside, I will say it was one of the dirtiest performances by Columbia and I still don't know how that headbutt in the box waiting for the free kick wasn't an instant red.
Kane was fouled constantly but I love how just shrugged them off, played the foul and didn't engage in the shenanigans or try to retaliate YES I'M LOOKING AT YOU KENNY.
England can be proud of how they've played in the WC and I am so ing glad it puts nice nail in the coffin of the previous generations shortcomings; Beckham, Sven, 19 management et al.
I think Southgate has done a admirable job of managing the team and the hype, and certain players that I've not had much love for previously (Lingard, Dier) are shining when needed. |

I wouldn't be so positive about this England's team.
Although it's a team that i like and it has good potential (specially for the next WC), so far, the results on the field are concerning:
- Two wins: against Panama (probably the worst team on the competition) and Tunisia;
- Lost to Belgium (a top team);
- Draw against Colombia, scoring with a laughable penalty;
In my humble opinion, this team must improve drastically if they want to beat a top team. You can't be lucky for 3 consecutive games. |

Oh don't worry for a second; I'm acutely aware that England's only real challenge so far has been Belgium who we lost to and Colombia who we drew with. I will say that regardless how how laughable you think the penalty was, it went in and the goalie though it was going left; Not many people can step up - especially with England's history in penalty shootouts - and deliver the winning goal. He was literally carrying the weight of England on him at that moment and still scored.
I think we've got a fighting chance against Sweden, but I really don't much fancy our chances against Brazil or an in form France. |

Seriously though, idk how you're ok with that comparison. Harry kane is a closet, you can't even bring him down if you want to. Neymar is like half his size.

| No one is asking the real questions: Will Suarez bite Neymar in the semifinals? What will it be like? |

| I really hope Suarez puts those chompers to work at some point. It's always fun when it happens. |

Like I said, he may have "embellished", but he had been tackled without the ball prior to that, and the refere was so close to Neymar he could've used the referee's legs as headrest, yet the referee was looking the other way. What was he to do?
Do I prefer to believe I'd have handled the situation as an English gentleman if I were him? Yes. Do I blame Neymar for going from "crying wolf" to "bawling like he's just been amputated"? Not on this particular occasion (can't say I condone his diving in the group stage though). |
Get up and play :)

I don't think it's a good team. In terms of talent, it's probably the worst squad we've sent to the World Cup in my lifetime (perhaps level with 2014). The real glaring problem is that we've scored just one goal from open play so far, and that was a long range wonder goal. We just don't create good goal scoring chances, the kind where our striker is one-on-one with the goalkeeper.
There are two main reasons to be positive. While all the other England teams of my lifetime have wasted their talents, this one is actually performing a bit better than it should be, thanks to good management, psychology, tactics. And we also have an incredibly kind path through the tournament. If we'd played Brazil, France or even Spain, we'd have been knocked out by now. But we could realistically go as far as the final without playing an elite team. So this is a great chance to over-achieve for once, instead of our usual under-achievement. |

I agree, Neymar is half the man that Kane is :p
Seriously, though, did you watch the Columbia game?
The only goal England scored was in fact, a penalty due to Sanchez trying to ride Kane like a horse to the ground. |

ooh, that's somewhat a game changer. They're only saying he won't start though.
Maybe if it gets crunchy (and by that I hope not bitey) they'll bring him on... |
