Great comeback by Yanks to overcome sloppy play and avoid the sweep.
A sweep by the Mets in the Stadium would've been too good to be true.
Yanks are 7 games behind the BoSox and needed that win to not fall further behind.
Mets are 7 games behind the Nats and can't ever take advantage of the Nats losing, to gain ground. They better pick things up in their upcoming stretch against the Phillies, Marlins, and Nats |

Yeah he obliterated the previous round record by Miguel Tejada of 15. And they were drilled, they weren't taps over the fence. He put on a show!
C'mon American League, get that home field advantage. Just thinking that determines home field makes me think of total gayness. |

The funny thing about Abreu is this...
Garret Anderson went from being one of the most underrated players in the game to being one of the most overrated players in the game. You heard casual fans talking about GA like he was in the top 3 in the game or something. Which he wasn't then and isn't now.
Bobby Abreu will now become a house hold name. People will talk about him all the time. He will go from being *the* most underrated and underappreciated player in the game today... to being... still the most underrated and underappreciated player in the game today. Even I, a Bobby Abreu whore, underrate Abreu. He is the second best all-around player in the game, behind Alex Rodriguez. He is probably a top 10 offensive player as well. Despite my loving of him, I still don't think I truly appreciate how great of a ball player he is. His stats are abnormal, year in, year out. He's amazing.
He's had 6 (counting this year, 7 [2 more homers is pretty much a given for the rest of the year]) consecutive 20/20 seasons, two of which being 30/30 (with this year likely being one as well, making that 3 30/30 seasons).
In 7 full seasons with the Phils, he has posted an OPS lower than .900 once. And it was close at .877.
His OBP has gone lower than .400 only once too, at .393.
He has walked 100+ times in each full season, and is on pace to do so again.
He really is one of the best in the game... and even now that he will become a known name in the game, he'll STILL be underrated by the media and fans alike, including yours truly. I think even the Detroit fans were digging Abreu more than the Philly fans do... |

amazing that for all the excitement that the Nationals have brought to DC this season, I'm surprised that they haven't been really mentioned in this thread....
they trade for Preston Wilson and pick up Mike Stanton
i'm not sure if Preston will be effective since he moves from the thin air of denver to one good pitcher's park |

Hopefully Stanton will be able to warm up The Chief Cordero for the 9th inning. At least we have another lefty in the bullpen. |
