Personally, I would. There are a lot of prog bedroom DJs playing GDJB tunes like the trance bedroom DJs play ASOT. It's not that hard to find great tunes that aren't mainstream.

So they are mainstream just because Markus is copying bedroom DJ's or do they just happen to copy him? Isn't influential a better word?

I think armin is e, and the style of music he plays is e. I can say this if i like, its no less valid an opinion than 'omfg armin is amazing'. Theres no reason whatsoever why people with a negative opinion on a subject cant voice it, whereas people with a positive opinion can.

but its not Armins sets, its Armins show lol, totally different things entirely, you look at ASOT, and maybe he will play a handful of the tunes in sets. His style in no way affects ASOT, its a showcase for new tunes, not Armins style. Everyone is entitled to say they dont like DJ's, i dont certain DJ's either. Look at PvDs Fritz radio show, ive heard some rather bizarre tunes in that and never seen him play them again! :)

i know you couldnt care less what people think of you, but it does help when posting a opinion thats negative, as to why its negative?

Yes but on fritz its PvD's own selection and PvD's own style ... on asot its generic trance, and in armin sets its just more generic trance. I dont really see the difference between armin's show and armin's sets. He is a dj with very very limited scope.

I'm going more with mainstream. Granted, he is influencing bedroom DJs, but he has brought prog open and into the mainstream. It's getting it's own radio time, and more and more people are becoming a fan of prog, with GDJB as the "staple" prog radio show.

What then happens is that every bedroom DJ and his/her fourth cousin starts playing tunes on GDJB (or ASOT, in ASOT's case), causing a lack of creativity. It's not hard to be creative and find tunes on your own.

Everyone has the right to listen to what they want and to post about it. I have bashed "standart music" and radio shows like ASOT but I have confessed as well once in a while to like this or that track that fits onto those descriptions. I think one thing is technically good music, and another separate thing is music that you like to hear.

In some way, you're right, people have been dissed for listening to ASOT or GDJB, and been almost called "inferior" by those who don't like it, that's plain stupid. On the other way, we have all the right to say what we like and what we don't like in music. And as been said, trance is not only ASOT, it may be the most popular form of trance but there is also a lot of other forms of trance.

Personally, the reason why I am still here is because I like the community, not really "trance" anymore, even though a good part of the tracks I listen to can be considered "trance". I don't think that the fact that one may not be a trancer anymore blocks him the right to post here. Actually, the more varied musical tastes we have on here, more things we can learn about music. Apart from one or two ocasional trolls from other musical genres that don't add anything to the community.

So true.

Armin plays mainly what's on his labels plus a selected few other labels who associate themselves with him a lot. If the people who don't like us criticising or belittling the radio shows don't like it, they shouldn't post on tranceaddict, this is a neutral board, not one specifically for ASOT/GDJB/TATW/whatever other radio shows go on. There is more to music than 2 radio shows, TA was about before them so why should we have to see the bull 'omfg i heard this last nite on armins show' threads, and just because we are not easily pleased by producers who make a living off repetitiveness, why should we not have a voice. If those people can't take the criticism of things, they shouldn't be posting on a board like ta fullstop
swisstoni_uk
how do you define Generic Trance though? if you look at the latest tracklist for ASOT 171, its so diverse, even playing a Vandit Release and he never plays Vandit in his sets :haha: he ranges from the chilled progressive to the banging harder trance

Very, very well-said.

Which brings me back to my earlier point; this is a neutral board. You know some of us are going to say something "anti-ASOT/GDJB" so is it really that hard to take two seconds out of your time to scroll past our posts?

Here's a little example from torontotrance last night:

Thread 2 at 5:22
a thread about Anjunabeats website

Thread 3 at 5:24

6 minutes. 3 threads. 3 posts denouncing mainstream trance.

Do we seriously need to put up with this constant assault on the MOST POPULAR form of trance on a website called tranceaddict? Ya we all know the best trance was made in 99 and its all been downhill from there...

If you believe that to be true, then what are you still doing on these forums? 5 years have gone by, if your tastes in music have MOVED then great, more power to you. BUT then maybe you should move to a different website too? One that better reflects your new musical pastures.

Maybe you guys could set up a new website called NonMainstreamEDMaddicts.com, and remember to send an e-mail to Armin that says "PLEASE Don't link us on your website, we don't want our boards polluted by your noob listeners who think Godzilla, Vadim Zhukov, Robert Nickson, Taucher, Max Graham, Airwave, Plastic Boy, Alucard, Haak, etc. are any good" (Names taken from the most recent episode of ASOT, a few of whom are regular posters on these forums)

If you hate trance so much, then give this website a break for a year... what do you have to lose? if you ever like trance again, and of course we hope you will, then we'll happily welcome you back into the fold ;) who knows, maybe in a year's time you'll be having so much fun at NonMainstreamEDMaddicts.com you'd never consider coming back. We'd be okay with that too :)
