generic trance = armin. he is the living definition, whether hes playing 'melodic prog' or 'trance' its always of the generic sense. There is NOTHING in armins playlist, radio or club, that really has any sort of creativity in it whatsoever ... possibly with the exception of remy/klinkenberg stuff.
ASOT shows are NOT diverse, i think this is the main problem that people have with asot followers, its their total inability to open their eyes to the possibility that they might be in the wrong... and they usually are.
There is such a wide variety of interesting music today, and none of it is played by armin. |

this is another argument that is pretty flawed ... to me it just seems like armin fans excuse for ASOT being pretty . Armin shouldnt put his name to the show if he doesnt want to be associated with it. |

lol give an example of a "diverse" track then thats around at the minute
you name a popular track, and Armin has played it ;)
EDIT: thats if hes actually been sent it :D |

If you believe that to be true, then what are you still doing on these forums? 5 years have gone by, if your tastes in music have MOVED then great, more power to you. BUT then maybe you should move to a different website too? One that better reflects your new musical pastures. |
And over the years, these boards have become more EDM focused than just Trance focused. Many people on here talk freely about Zabiela or Carl Cox, both of whom are not Trance. Have you ever made a fuss about people talking about them?
As was said before; this is not an ASOT-Only board. Thanks to evolution, this is also not a Trance-Only board (only in title). If you can't handle the opinions and personal tastes of others on a neutral board, then politely get the out. |

But thats the problem, he only goes for the obvious stuff... when has he ever played any really good breakbeat, or any really good electro stuff? he just hasnt & will never do in a million years.... and dont say 'oh but hes a trance dj' because PvD is a 'trance' dj according to everyone on these forums, and he still manages to play some of the best most interesting stuff going. |

i'd replace 'popular' with 'hyped' there.
The fact that ASOT is a weekly show also doesn't help it at all, as it's just pushing too much down our throats and too many mediocre tunes are getting played and hyped up when they don't have the quality that a lot of us look for. Armin is going on a path that Tijs has in the fact that he's playing the 'popular' stuff as it's put because he wants to be voted #1 in the dj mag poll, and with the huge publicity machine behind him that is armada & david lewis, he could well make it. Then again if being voted number 1 makes him sleep well at night, so be it, but I'd rather listen to a dj who plays tunes on their quality of production and not just because my label was releasing them and wanted to market them through the show. |

That could be due to the fact that on Fritz he experiments a bit, and you get diversity from him, I'm not a huge fan of the tunes myself, but the man doesn't just play whatever he's releasing on his own label |

| Armin's style does have some diversity, but there's no creativity in what he puts together. It's always the same formula: build slowly from mcprog to epic, ocasionally make a break with one or two tech-trance/wannabe dutch techno tracks, eventually (especially in the 2nd parts of ASOT) a break here or there with an actually good track. Almost every single track he plays sounds standart within it's genre, and usually when he plays a good one in ASOT, it's the only one that isn't new and has been played already by some other famous dj. |

the main thing is that within the dance music industry, armin is seen as a trance dj & only trance producers will send him stuff
whereas PvD goes way back with djs like Sasha, Carl Cox, Laurent Garnier etc etc so he still gets sent pretty much every track from every genre ever made :haha:
This shouldnt be an excuse for armin playing generic music though, there just isnt an excuse. |

| So you cant find a track, so compare Armins show to Paul van Dyks ? , different countries, different radio stations, different rules, different requirements |

the sad fact however is that 2-3 years ago, Armin could really play a 'different' set, darker or proggier and do so well, now you rarely see it if at all. |

give tracks like alter ego - rocker, co fusion - hot hot, hardy hard - the police on dope and armin would not have a ing clue what to do with them, give them to PvD and hes happy to play them...
not saying PvD is some sort of electro god or anything, but if people insist on saying hes a trance dj and comparing him to the likes of armin then frankly armin just doesnt cut it. |
