| IMO trance that doesn't follow the same formula are tracks like, Kaycee-Escape, Whiteroom-Whiteroom, Flaming June, Synaesthesia. Oh and I think a lot of push's stuff is fairly original formula wise. |

It runs thus:
People don't like the thing trance is becoming, so they want to express that. ASOT is a big, glowing billboard saying "I'M POPULAR, ATTACK ME". It's a figurehead for what trance is becoming (by showcasing all the latest tunes), so it's easy to attack and blame as the root of all evil.
Everything else in this thread (arguably excepting Radagast's 1st comment) is irrelevant. |

So why would you expect to hear a 4 year old techno track on a trance radio show. Maybe if ASOT stood for "Armin Spins Old Techno" :p

I dont expect to go to a trance night and hear in hard house being blasted just to keep the 'diversity'
You wanna hear trance you go see a trance dj. You wanna see D&B you go see a D&B DJ. |
Most sensible comment so far, well done. For those people complaining about lack of diversity, the show is called "A State Of Trance". It's a radio show where new Trance music is played. Now I don't think this is too difficult a concept to grasp. It's only a medium for hearing music, so if it's not what you want to hear then there are thousands of other radio shows out there for you to listen to. |

DJ's copy ASOT style (so?;trance dj's have always done this)
Banal tracks (so?;where have you been for the past 5 years?)
|
i don't care much anymore for epic trance but i think you'd have to be a bit deaf not to realise that there is a difference in sound between early ASOT and current ASOT. i miss the armin that played more stuff from cyber records, alien recordings, forbidden planet records, joof recordings, etc etc instead of probspot and company. old armin was more dark and less fluffy |

as for Armin, seems to me like all he plays is new tunes, regardless whether they mix well together or should even be in the same set. ASOT :p |
armin isnt exactly known for trainwrecking sets :haha:
now about ASOT, what where you saying? |

maybe there is a different sound in the trance scene? the scene has progressed over the course of the years. 1999 is different to 2004, so i think the possibilities quite good that ASOT might well change too  |

*sigh*, few of you understood my intent.
I'll make an analogy.
Say i'm one of those people who think all Prog is boring crap (plenty of people like that).
How should I express that opinion?
1) Every time I see a post that mentions prog I can jump in there and say "Prog is all boring crap, if you like prog your taste in music sucks"
or
2) Once a month I can "Remind" people that I don't see any merit in the style of EDM called Prog for reasons x, y and z.
or
3) I can avoid comenting on prog completely and direct my input about EDM to those genres that I enjoy.
The thing is that MANY select option 1.
I'm not defending Armin in this thread. What i'm defending is the ability of people to like a style of music that is APPROPRIATE to like on this website without feeling prosecuted.
Here's your homework assignment: read this thread about the last ASOT show http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...threadid=216581 that has over 500 posts, and see all the love for trance that is in it.
That much LOVE can't be wrong... |

| Ppl have the right to present their opinions, I personally don't listen to ASOT regularly, but whenever I do there is like 2-3 songs that I like and the rest is garbage that Armin is just trying to hype... |

Repeatedly people who like the mainstream Trance are getting bashed on these forums. There is a concerted and deliberate campaign being waged to make people who enjoy mainstream feel as though their taste in music is somehow inferior to those who think its . |
Forgive us for standing up and voicing what we think is true, for good reason.
| quote: | | Do we seriously need to put up with this constant assault on the MOST POPULAR form of trance on a website called tranceaddict? |
Yes, because otherwise the last shreds of decent trance would completely capsize into a totalitarian dicatorship of marginal Dutch garbage. Any actual artistic criticism would no longer have a place in the scene, and that's a very sad prospect for the genre I've grown to love.
| quote: | | If you believe that to be true, then what are you still doing on these forums? 5 years have gone by, if your tastes in music have MOVED then great, more power to you. BUT then maybe you should move to a different website too? One that better reflects your new musical pastures. |
My tastes have moved somewhat over the last few years, but not significantly; "trance" remains the focus. What HAS moved is the popular sound of trance, in a persistently watered-down, fluffy direction. It's our website, too. And our genre too.
| quote: | | Maybe you guys could set up a new website called NonMainstreamEDMaddicts.com, and remember to send an e-mail to Armin that says "PLEASE Don't link us on your website, we don't want our boards polluted by your noob listeners who think Godzilla, Vadim Zhukov, Robert Nickson, Taucher, Max Graham, Airwave, Plastic Boy, Alucard, Haak, etc. are any good" (Names taken from the most recent episode of ASOT, a few of whom are regular posters on these forums) |
Where to begin? First off, I don't listen to non-mainstream-EDM, whatever that is. I mainly listen to trance, along with some techno and progressive. Second, that grab-bag of artists you list have very different artistic records, and are good, decent, or bad based on what time period, style, and taste you are talking about with regards to each one. Comparing Vadim Zhukov to L-Vee or MIKE is like apples or oranges; the former is a very new name in epic trance, while the latter two have an incredibly long and diverse records in all sorts of styles. And Max Graham? Huh??
| quote: | | If you hate trance so much, then give this website a break for a year... what do you have to lose? if you ever like trance again, and of course we hope you will, then we'll happily welcome you back into the fold ;) |
Completely, totally missing the point. Trance does not belong to Armin. Many of us who criticize the most happen to like trance the most, not hate it. And there you have the fundamental misunderstanding. |

So learning to deal with the opinions of others and skip over our posts about how we don't like ASOT or GDJB is impossible? As we said earlier; this is a neutral board. We're free to express ourselves, and you're not going to be able to stop that. You're going to have to learn to sit back and accept it.

As I said earlier, this forum has become much more than just trance. I haven't been posting here for over a year, and already it's obvious that it's changed from trance-only into a forum that accepts every genre of EDM in a manner in which we're able to freely post about it. This forum is not an ASOT forum. It's a neutral forum about EDM that just so happens to have "trance" in the title. People aren't going to leave and change their opinions just because you don't like people voicing them.
Oh, and by the way, when people make topics about Carl Cox or James Zabiela, why not rag on those people, because, ya know, this forum is trance-only, and like, Cox & Zab aren't trance. |

Fair enough, people have the right to say 'I don't like this music' but it's the people who slag others for liking music which they don't like themselves which annoys me. |
