Neither the nightly news, nor the newspapers, nor the radio, nor the talk shows, nor television in general....nothing. A good comment was made about 15 years ago, stating that you haven't really made it big in the American music industry until Weird Al does a parody.
There is no media presence whatsoever on Tiesto other than scene-devoted rags. He is water underneath the bridge of the mainstream media.

How do you know what Dutch trance is pretending to do or not? Do you have some mental connection with Dutch trance? Do you channel the spirit of Dutch trance and discover its inner thoughts and feelings? That's AMAZING! I wish I had the kind of connection with Dutch trance to make such a comment as you have. You are free to think up any reason you want, but here's my theory: America has a much much MUCH lower tolerance for bull than Europe. They do not put up with much; euro disney circus sideshows from Europe are a ing joke to the US music industry. They do not suffer fools, twits, or ego-driven dutchtards. Either bring something of actual substance to the table, or off. |
Dutch DJ's are great crowd readers (but not only the Dutch), probably because they are able to play for huge crowds. Love Parade, Members of Mayday, Sensation, Mysteryland, Dance Valley, Tiesto In Concert, Trance Energy, Innercity. We are not talking about playing for 10.000 people, but many, many more.
Why isn't Robbie Williams a superstar in the US? Why do many rock groups come to Europe in the summer to play at the festivals like Werchter, Rock am Ring, Pinkpop, Roskilde.
It is not that US stadiums aren't big enough, they even are bigger. Why 1000's of people watch live baseball, football, basketball games and many more do visit the Indy500?
So there probably is another reason. It took those DJ's many years to get known by huge crowds, why should we expect this would happen much faster in the US?
Give me some names of trance/techno tracks which reached the top of the popcharts in the US. Trance is more accepted by a large crowd in Europe and that is why these DJ's are so succesfull. Trance is also played at the national radio stations, so it reaches huge crowds. This way a music style will be accepted easier.
By the way, Tiesto is playing a 6 hours set in Amsterdam this evening starting at 22:00. You can listen and see it at his site. (If the newspaper was correct.) |
