I had no idea what to expect from the club/light show, and as you can see from the the pics, they're pretty amazing. I'll see if I can get a couple more up later.

Are you British yourself? I was out in that region long enough to "wait in the queue" instead of "wait in line" :gsmile:
I felt the way you felt...once every 4 years sounds great for that island. But I may make it 3 and go next year. Lets see... |
Nah, I'm born and raised in LA. But I know enough idioms around to try and blend in. The less I look like a tourist, the better. |

hey dollaroff, i think we may think alike, i thought the same of mykonos...not as fun as ibiza. and getting to super paradise was a pain...cause we missed the last boat back and no taxis would come down there to pick us up! long story. we are going back to ibiza next year, cant wait! |
Ugh. Yah, I knew that was a problem, so I came back early each day.
In the end, I can get to Hawaii which is "similar" to Mykonos for the beach for $350 and 6h versus $600+ and 14-16h. |

Where are the recommend must sees and do's while on the island. Getting a good list down.. but always up for more.
:D |
First, learn a bit of Spanish. It does help. It also doesn't make you look like a British tourist!
Also realize, that Ibiza is in Catalonia, so all of the street signs are in Catalan. Everyone spoke English, but some of the taxi drivers had poor English (so Spanish worked instead).
For an easy-access beach, Playa d' En Bossa is great. There are other beaches that may be better, but you need a car (or a nice taxi) to get you there.
You want to explore Ibiza Town (day & night), just to walk around and see it.
Sunset at Cafe Mambo/Cafe del Mar is a must. Make reservations.
For eating, Bas said:
Cap des Falco, which is located in the Salinas area past where DC10 is.
Blue Marlin, which is located in the south of the Island in the Cala Jondal area.
El Chiringuito at Cala Gracioneta, which is just above San An.
Which all seemed hard to get to, but should be awesome. We never got to those.
We ate at the following, which all were great.
Ca N'Alfredo
Vara del Ray 16
El Olivo
Placa de la Vila
Il Pavone
Virgen 27
Romagna Mia
Ramon Muntaner 28
We got recommended "Thai" food on the island; the restaurant was run by Thai people, but didn't taste like Thai here in LA, so avoid that :)
I hit every open big disco except Eden/Es Paradis, and that was the smart move :) There is a foam party at Es Paradis once a week, if you're into that...
Presale tickets for the discos are everywhere. Just shop around. In San An, they seemed to be a bit cheaper than Ibiza Town/Playa d' en Bossa, but don't taxi to San An to buy a presale ticket :)
Buy a lot of water: Like the 5L+ jugs, and 1 small plastic bottle, and just refill it during the week at the beach, etc... You can't drink the water out of the tap (showers were bleh), so you'll need it to brush your teeth too. Plus, the water clogged up my razors: I had to clean them out every day; you may want to bring extras (I usually use 1 a week, shaving once a day, and a razor was almost ruined after 2 shaves because of the water).
Cash is pretty much king. Some restaurants took credit cards, but most small places didn't. There are ATMs on the island, but with a 300€ limit/day, you could run out of cash.
You don't need to tip much. Maybe 1-2€ to a taxi driver, up to 10% for dinner service. 1€ for a couple of drinks at a bar. I never tipped for service at a disco.
We went to a market and bought stuff for lunch/after-clubbing food. That saved a bunch of € instead of going out more. They have hot dogs there after the discos close, but not like the bacon-wrapped ones we have in LA! There were also other vendors selling "something" else, but we just avoided them too.
The taxi between Playa d' en Bossa and San An was 25€ one-way. Privilege and Amnesia are half-way, so about 13€ one-way (so you're looking at 30€ taxi from the disco to your hotel each night). There is a disco bus that runs at night. 3€, limited stops. We never took the bus, by our friend that is there for the season takes it all the time, and had no problems. When I'm on holiday, I'm paying for extra convenience: you can take the bus, but plan an extra hour each way to wherever you want to go.
We never had any problems catching a taxi, but in some residential areas are harder: just walk to a taxi stand. Plus, you can hail them on the curb. People said you can share taxis, but we never saw that: once a taxi was hired, it never stopped.
Bring suntan lotion with you. I bought mine at Target for $6. A smaller bottle was 9€ there.
In our flat, the outlets were old, so our adapters had a hard time plugging in: we really needed masking or duct tape to hold them in, but we couldn't find any.
We did bring an outlet strip to we could plug in multiple devices to recharge. Just make sure your power supplies can handle the voltage. |

He was on Tuesday, and we went to Carl Cox instead (only there for one Tuesday night). Sorry! |

| That's the big conundrum. Once Carl Cox starts his shows in early July, there's really only one place to go on Tuesdays. |

That is great advise thank you!!! We are staying right on the beach at Playa d' En Bossa. We also plan on renting a car for a day or so to explore the island.
For reservations @ Cafe Mambo can you go in and make them... or is it better to call? And stupid question.. that is on the San An. Side right?
Think the disco bus is the way to go. Love the idea of meeting/ pre loading with people before getting to the club. Will make sure I plan that extra hour! :D |

Yes its in San An. If you're staying in PDB then you can either take the Bus, Cab, or better yet just rent a car for a few days. You'll save yourself the the hassle or cost of buses and cabs.
Mambo and the surrounding Cafes get quite full in the evenings so its good to try and make reservations. |

No problem on the advice...but Hypersky planted all of the seeds!

I do have to expand a bit w/ Hypersky says about the cars: the civil police (policia civil) only seemed to stop private drivers, and definitely caused a ruckus if you were DUI; I would only plan to drive during the day to places (and please, have a designated driver) and never to the discos at night. |

a day each way in Athens (I avoided that going to Mykonos, but it took me quite sometime to book my flights, and I had 3 legs of travel: we left Cocoon at 6:30a, taxied back to our flat, finished packing, checked out and went to the airport. I was flying from 8:30a and finally made it to my room in Mykonos at 10:30p (with 1h time difference)), but I was forced to stay in Athens on the way home back to the states.
|
Oops: this was unclear.
I flew: IBZ-MAD-ATH-JMK; 3 legs. About 5 hours of flying and 1 hour time difference. The problems I had were:
a) Our ATH-JMK flight was delayed 2 hours.
b) Because I flew on Tue, there were no flights direct BCN-ATH. I had a 3h layover in MAD, whereas if I flew almost every other day, I could have shaved off 2 more hours.
There might be some more creative routings you could do, but if you're going to JMK, you're pretty much stuck on connecting in ATH (I tried to find others, but I couldn't find them on the schedule), which limits your choices leaving IBZ.
(like you wouldn't want to fly IBZ-LHR-ATH-JMK: you're flying in the wrong direction)
If you want to start looking at routings, start with the JMK
Wikipedia page, and use those airlines to cross-reference. The two I would check in more detail are Air Berlin and EasyJet (remember, EJ merged with Vueling a couple of weeks ago).
If you really are doing both stops and you're not good at determining routings, this is a time where paying a travel agent is worth it. I spent a good 4h trying to determine routings, and in the end, once I found what worked, I couldn't book the legs together (which you should always try and do just to prevent connecting issues even if you can't interline your baggage) via Orbitz (for example). |

Yes, i wouldn't drive anywhere at night. The car is fantastic to drive around during the day and check out some of the more remote areas of the Island. |
