Yeah I met a few of them in Space the other day, drowning their sorrows over Domenich's spastic behaviour. :)

A lot of people I know are thinking about 2011 since the euro is forecasted to go to even parity with the dollar. Of course there is never a better time than the present, I just can't go this year.

That would be great. But the Euro's come down quite a bit this year, as is.(lowest since early 2006 when it started to shoot up)

yay for the stronger dollar. when we went to ibiza in 2008, it was like 1 euro = 1.7 dollars.

this year, it looks like 1 euro = 1.25 dollars...so this trip will be a third cheaper. yay!

i don't think the exchange rate ever got above say $1.50 or $1.55... but still nice to be about 20% lower now than when i went in 2007....

Here's a 5-year chart:

http://finance.yahoo.com/echarts?s=EURUSD=X+Interactive#symbol=EURUSD=X;range=5y

Looks like the worst was 1.59 in summer '08.
Who knows, maybe some thieving exchange place on the island were getting people for 1.7

exactly. look at the chart. july 2008 is 1.589. with exchange fees, agency costs, etc, by the time you get to the bank, its 1.7.

any frequent traveler knows...there is ALWAYS a discrepancy between the actual exchange rate and the real exchange rate. you have to factor in fees.

even if you use your credit car overseas, they usually charge you a foeign exchange fee.

I have a Schwab Visa and an ETrade debit card, they don't tack on any extra fees (other than what visa charges), and I usually get better than exchange rate :)
I highly recommend it. Also, the Schwab Visa pays unlimited 2% cash back.

yeah i don't think i ever paid more than 5% over the going rate.... we exchanged a bunch of $ at BofA before leaving and the rest of the trip used credit cards to get the best rates...

HSBC ftw - they refund any atm charges anywhere in the world. I have not paid to withdraw money in 5 years in any country. Even on the club ones in vegas that charge you like $10 per withdrawal.

For anyone in the UK - get your money change at Marks and Spencer - the best rates you can find period. They're better than any bank or exchange.

Cocoon is very good this year. I've observed a noticeable spike in the quality of the music. Sven was fantastic last week, and Villalobos and Marco Carolla surprisingly outperformed Magda and Hawtin this week.

I spoke to Chris Liebing at Coccon and he was very high on his CLR party on Tuesdays at Space (Drumcell there this past week). I presume that will continue until Carl Cox rolls into town in the first week of July at which point PDB will officially blow up into full on summer party mode.

There's a new party on Wednesdays at Space called Kehakuma. I went once expecting some Techno and was mortified to hear a variety of deep house that I thought might've gone extinct in the late 90s.

The weather is getting warmer and should be quite hot if any one is planning on coming out in July or August. IMO, the best time to come is the first or second week in July, as its right around the time Carl Cox starts his party at Space, the weather gets nice and toasty, and the prices are still relatively affordable compared to when they peak in August.

For me - Cocoon is still the best party on the Island by a country mile. Best crowd, best music, minimal muppets. Everything a good club night should be.

Enjoy.

Thanks for the update. I can't wait for Cocoon in 2 weeks. Space/Amnesia/Space. Should be a great 3 days. I'm glad I skipped out on Kehakuma and instead planning to fly back to Barcelona a day earlier.
