i didnt have to listen to it, i could tell what it was by the artist names. but i downloaded and listened (skimmed) real quick through it. if you want to be anal about genre names, fine, it started with ambient, then dub, then deep house, minimal techno/tech house, then back to ambient of the noisecore variety. now who do you think is more likely going to come in this thread and defend minimal styled music? you, or someone who plays indie electro, disco, dance rock, dnb, trance? probably you. and its the same with the others i listed.
im not being an ass im pointing out something so its clear to everyone whats going on here. personally, i like your track selections, i just think you're too one dimensional. like, those are all good tracks as tools in a set, but a set full of nothing but that kind of stuff? nope. that goes for 99% of minimal loopish old obscure mixed with new style djs out there, promo mix after promo mix ive heard, they all sound very similiar. they do a good job researching music and picking out tracks with good percussion and sound effects and forget about other aspects of good music such as memorable melodies, vocals, energy. at the same time its apparent from tracklistings these guys are keeping up with current global trends of "underground" dance music by looking at what big names are doing. you end up with that sounds nice and all but does absolutely nothing to get people down and dirty on the dance floor. theres too many of these types of djs and its taken over as the standard for "off the beaten path" modern disco. there are a very select few freaks that can actually pull this stunt off and keep people interested, names like richie hawtin, ricardo villalobos, luciano, sven vath, wighnomy bros, steve bug.

check out my mix posted here called "live at ctb terrace" no post rock in that though, but some kraut inspired stuff, and a lot of jazz and funk. you're way out of line here.
listen to that and tell me i play 'minimal' lol. the guys i played with do, but i most definitely don't.

there are 16 tracks that i labelled as 'mnml', out of about 2700 in that catalog (which doesnt include my vinyl) and of those 16 i may have played one (loco dice - paradiso) the others were mostly free promotions from beatport. i wouldnt pay for that .
maybe every once in a while i find something i like that is related to this minimal crackhead scene - eg i bought seth troxler's 'aphrika' because it is a performance of maya angelou's 'phenomenal woman' poem, which i found appropriate for a gig i played.
this is truly the first time anyone has ever referred to any of my mixes as one-dimensional.

I buy donna summer records, tangerine dream, herbie hancock, sun ra, kevin yost, moodymann, ravi shankar, hariprasad chaurasia, mr fingers, moloko, st germain, damien shingleton, edgar varese, zazou, drexciya, augustus pablo..etc
trust me, you're barking up the wrong tree
also, that tracklist you singled out was from a proton radio techno show, of which I am a steward. I would hardly play that any other occasion, especially for a live set. |

We play and listen to music we like of all sorts and shapes. A couple of random people on the internet have already made up their minds about what defines us.
Who cares.
If ignorant people want to label 90% of dance music "minimal plink plonk" because they're ing bitter individuals who can't have fun today, thats not my problem. As I've said before, I'm having a lot of fun and thats really all that matters to me. |

it really bothers me when people post minimal tunes on youtube and 50 people comment saying its the best track ever. That's impossible. I know everyone has their own taste, but some songs just can't be the best track ever...and it makes me want to people up for saying such a thing.
