Consciously or not the electro minimal ''berlin sound'' that was marketed as the glorified sound of now by 2-cent self proclamed journalists and payed media whores would face the inevitable, and often unfavorable, comparison with the garage influenced big room NY Progressive House it replaced in record stores.
And so it is practically a given that the energy and emotion of progressive house have not been duplicated here, and in all honestly, probably never will.
The Problem is that it is 09 right now. It has been years since they have been pushing this dull & predictable sound yet no matter how many times these records miserably fail to inspire a viable following, and consequently a fan base that will continue to support the genre, in the face of anemic sales to non existent sales, they keep promoting these records regardless of whether or not they fall upon deaf ears.
The question remains. Will dance music be able to regain the strength it had in the early millennium or will it fade into obscurity after the loss of big distributors sponsors physical record stores and djs that play records not as in tracks or songs but as in those big round black things you put needles on? |
Just curious, but what is the first track that comes to mind when you think of the genre, minimal? |

Try this exercise. This might help you ‘’get it’’.
Next time you put a minimal record on your turntable forget for a second how the labels logo looks on the slipmat when the platter spins around and think to yourself:

See.. minimal is the type of dull that tries to pass itself for cutting edge dance music these days.
And the people who like minimal well... they like it either because they got hit in the head when they were little or because some circle-jerking hype-rag told them it is ''the sound of now''.
There is no other excuse that people enjoy pointless go-nowhere 11 minute weird for the sakes of it tracks because there is some deeper meaning to them that we mortals do not get because it is dead obvious to anyone with half a brain that they are about as pointless as it gets.
And no! I don't have the time to explain to you why. All you got to do is open your ears and eyes.
Coz you got to be fu****ng blind not to notice that the dance scene lately is full of these misguided noobs who have been somehow duped into thinking that this stuff has a point to it.
Well... I got news for you... it doesn't.
Because it all comes down to this: with minimal it's all about proving something.
And they’ve proven time and time again that they can piss directly into your open mouths and you’ll swallow it down like it was the latest hype chart from berlin.

Try this exercise -
stop judging people and just accept that some have different tastes than you.
I never bought this stuff (literally and figuratively) but you are just out of line here.
This was never about proving anything, just about making party music and getting ed up, which is what people have always done and always will do. |

i dont think this is the minimal techno that this thread talks about
also minimal techno and techno in general really does not need to go anywhere. It's not a narrative/horizontal type of music, it is a vertical music, a mindstate (or bodystate?). The tracks don't need to go anywhere in the classical sense, because the deejay makes them go somewhere by superimposition.
