ok now that was pretty damn nice towards the end (sorry but had to skip the first half).
so heres the thing, i was very much into minimal techno and tech house and , i dont play it much anymore because i think the scene is like a fruit thats been dried up and sucked of all the nectar and theres nothing left but an empty shell ... |
thanks...
how can you be sure it is the scene or music itself, and not simply something inside of you that has dried up?
i mean you're probably right - i dig mostly older records |

im not good at communicating via text but this guy giving a review of DEMF (which i missed) conveys the feelings ive had when attending many a tech house dance headliner show that's come to my area the past 6 mon, maybe year:
"For the past couple of years I've been hearing the freshness sucked right out of techno. Even the minimal music I hear has been becoming drier and more generic then it was just a few years back. It seems people have gotten to a place where what 'works' on the dancefloor has taken precedent over experimentation and creation, and I just hear so many dry duplicate techno tracks that have some kind of feedback/rattling/whitenoise/siren swell cresendo back into wobbling bassline and boom/click. I mean, what does it mean to make 'commercial music'? When you actually tailor what you are doing to appease market forces, in this case the least common denominator audience on the dance floor, are you not then making music for the masses in a sense? I know a lot of artists don't go into a techno set intending to clear a floor, but come on man. I love adam beyer and the whole swedish sound, and have even found myself interested in some of his newer productions, but talk about a generic sounding set, and it went on and on all weekend. Ultra generic techno from the hardliners.
One other thing I noticed, RAVE is back! I don't mean the culture or the clothing, I mean the sound. Ravey stabs, sirens, wierd ravey melodies and arpeggios, I heard them non stop all weekend from all corners of the EDM spectrum that I happened to catch. Some people managed to make them fun, or blend them with more serious elements to balance them out, but man, it was a rave-a-thon at the actual festival."
for the most part, a lot of people on mnml.nl have been saying the same thing lately.
and the last part about the RAVE sounds, that's exactly what ive been seeing around here and in tracks i find on youtube lately. it seems its going back to raw stabby sounds lately. |

I agree with everything that guy said. I heard the big jocks play absolute dog music all weekend. Marco Carola played some of the worst music I have ever heard in my life on Saturday night at DEMF. Beyer bored the out of me at resolute.
I have no time for music devoid of any soul or warmth. |

Apparently he sucked at DEMF because he was coked out of his mind, but I don't think I've ever seen him play much differently.

i guess it's because i spend a LOT of energy (time, money, etc) digging for records and learning about music in such a broad sense and it's a little offensive to be pigeonholed in this way.
|
Trust me it shows. The majority of your recommendations and music you mix is stuff that I have just completely never heard of. It's very refreshing, I wish I was better at finding great music like that. |

| I can't believe this thread is still going. Clearly everybody has their own personal tastes, why continue to argue about that? |
