The sound system is WHACK. And believe it or not it's a Funktion 1. I wish they would get their act together with a proper dedicated sound person. |

This is what happens when club people who buy the Funktion System based on it's name and w/o understanding it...
...Remember when Mezz's would always go between from sounding great to sound whack, then heard from the sound guy who would come in from Vegas (where he was in charge of Ice's system at the time) to re-tune Mezz's system said you basically have to re-tune it on a regular basis. Believe the guy might've actually worked for Funktion One. It's amazing when it's tuned, but it gets out of tune pretty quickly...
...so yeah, if a venue with a Funktion One system doesn't at least bring one in on a regular basis to re-tune it, there's going to be many nights where it's whack... |

it's a really nice club actually, but terrible for underground music. people don't really go there for techno and don't really understand it, especially on thursdays when it's more of a cocktail lounge that empties out by 1:30. this has resulted in some amazing djs like danny howells, damian lazarus and three coming in and dropping mediocre sets. when base had saturday monthlies there, they created a pretty good vibe, but that's ancient history. now the owner is pretty stuck on booking headliners on thursdays only.
another reason i've grown to dislike the place is its no ins and outs policy. it didn't used to be that way. they have a very nice funktion1, which used to have clipping problems because they overdrive the system, but they brought in a rep to tune it so it plays fine way too loud now. last couple of times i've been there i wanted to leave in an hour because the nearfield acoustics were so overwhelming i couldn't really enjoy anything. i just wanted to get outside where my ears could recover.
that said, i might still go just because it's loco dice. |
