You can say that all I want about lineups and largely I do wish for the same, but at the same time a ton of the DJs are worked around for preparties and afterparties adn they have to book DJs that will sell tickets.
For the type of event that the LoveFest afterparty is, a danny howells vs danny tenaglia wouldn't work, IMO. While they do have their die hard audience, a huge part of it (especially tenaglia's) is an older audience that wouldn't touch the official afterparty with a ten foot poll because of what most of the crowd is made up of...\
Beyond that if you look between the official afterparty last year and then the year before the lineups were largely different outside of the DnB room.
I would love for Love Lee to happen again, but at Ruby this time...want to hear him on that soundsystem. :)
In the end, as much as the LoveFest weekend is about having all the fun you can, for the promoters it's business too. Can't just throw any DJ in there. At the same time, can't throw just random headliners in there which kills the flow of the night (think Popsicle).

Actually I really liked that Love Lee was at Mezzanine because the atmosphere beats the pants off of Ruby Skye, even if the sound system's not quite as good. Ruby Skye's much more flashy, much more a "see and be seen" crowd from what I've noticed. Every time I go to Mezzanine, people just want to get wasted/high and party their asses off, and there's much less care for appearances. And it's not like Mezzanine's sound is bad by any means; I actually think it's great for techno and techy house in particular. Maybe book Lee for another night at Ruby (because then I get to see him twice), but I love that party how it is.
I agree with the "older crowd" on avoiding the official afterparty if at all possible. The candy raver underage stripper e-puddle thing doesn't do it for me. There are about 3 acts that could make me go to it, and I doubt any will be there (Sasha & Digweed, Tenaglia vs Howells, and Pink Floyd). While by age I'm not an old timer, I at least flatter myself by saying that I'm mature enough to appreciate a good party. I'm there for the music, and the people, and the party (the point of my evening is not drugs, even if I take them), and I really enjoy the slightly older crowds more.
Which is to say, there are other parties than the official afterparty (thank god), and a LOT more people going to Lovefest than the teenies who would probably appreciate a really kick-ass other option. Plenty of other (sizable) venues that could sell out a Tenaglia vs Howells show, or at least something solid that's NOT TRANCE. |

last year's was kind of a strange vibe with the mashup dj - i'm glad they went back to an all house night
the year before with Miguel Migs was fun!! |

I completely agree that having a Howells vs Tenaglia at a skills party would be a little strange and a weird business decision. BUT whats to say they couldn't rock the out of the Skills/Spundae float and then headline Ruby Skye at night??? I know this is a pipe dream, but is there any chance of LoveFest getting these types of DJ's instead of the usual CL,DJDAN,DEEPVOICES, lineup?
or bringing back Carl Cox would be ok too:D |
