Dave covered a lot of the issues.

Crowd-sourced would be great but the quality just isn't there. That's what you'd get at sfstation.com and good luck getting past the first dozen pages of top40 clubs. Even residentadvisor, which used to be great for clean listing of techno events is now getting spammed by things like PURA latin nights at 1015 folsom.

Promoters can and many already do submit their events to SFEDM, but I approve less then 50% of the submissions as-is, without having to modify them.

First, I straight up reject around 15% of submissions because they're just hip-hop/mashups/"dance hits" normal club nights. The other 35% of submissions I have to edit a bit, by either un-marking local bedroom djs that were marked as "headliners", looking for the tickets link because the submitter only posted a facebook page, removing spammy event names like "NYE 2012: OMG THE BIGGEST PARTY EVER LOL", replacing third tier "promoters" with the main promoter of the night, etc.

Then there is the fact that we are posting about events based on booking agency announcements and artists' own sites, in many cases weeks before the promoter will even start promoting the shows. In the end, I'd say 70% of SFEDM's event are entered by me or a couple other friends.

In the end, some level of moderation is absolutely needed.

i submitted tycho a while back and i think it got denied :(

it's okay though, 'cause it sold out :)

I've seen it work excellently in Japan, but I guess you just can't trust Americans in the US not to spam your sites with top40 clubs.

must have been submitted when i was totally ignoring the site. i would not have denied it. even with partial info, i eventually get to filling in the blanks and accepting.

on a side note, i am rejecting so many NYE parties right now (most of which are multi-room "mainstream" parties with a local "house" dj in one room).
