While Spundae is helping Ruby with every Friday night event in their listings, not sure how much of the bookings were done by Spundae. Might have been Ruby handling and Spundae is handling promoting. Not really my business and I don't go trying to butt into it, hehe.
Anyhow, I can say that with Spundae, it seems to always be about the spurts. There will be a month or two of calm where they might be helping out with the event in some way, then there will be a few months of "OMG please stop with all these great events lined up because I am already broke as hell but of course I am still gonna go which will just make me more broke not to mention lose more sleep!"
Anyhow, with Ruby in general, other than very well-known DJs that can play any number of genres and still please the crowd (ie if a chunk of the crowd shows up for that DJ), booking house DJs is a safer bet for the general crowd that attends the club. |

Plus 2 to that RIZO!
We don't get why people are so discriminatory towards 1015, oh wait it's because there are so many Asians! We are so sick of prejudiced people downing 1015 simply because there are a number of Asians going there, w/o them our Danceclubs would be practically empty, thay love their Trance and know how to party. It really ticks me off when people say that but in all honesty we don't want to hang around or associate with people as closeminded and judgemental as those people.:whip: |

I think it's obvious that this year 1015 has pulled in the most talent on a consistent basis. Every single weekend there has been a high quality DJ on the decks, either known by all or known by all TAs. |

Sorry pal, 1015 hasn't been anywhere close to the quality and consistency of Mighty when it comes to throwing great parties with real musical talent and a fun crowd. Mighty's the death of RS, 1015 my ass. |

Talking about trance music, not your cup of tea. :p |

There have been certainly large gaps of Ten15 not booking a lot of the bigger talent. Saying they have been doing it week-in week-out is an overstatement. There have been large periods were Sat nights there were dominated only by locals....several times a month. Luckily for TAs, in most cases those local-oriented nights are full of DJs we can all be sure to enjoy....ala trance DJs.
Ruby certainly has its dull periods, too, but in a lot of cases it's dull because it's simply headliners that don't really interested any of us. Ala, house DJs which we can largely find boring. But when Ruby and its promoters are in gear and go on a run of crazy bookings, it rivals what you see during good periods in LA and nothing in SF can touch it. Sorry.
That said, Ten obviously has a few big DJs in its arsenal, but beyond that the club (Taj) has done a fantastic job of booking new, raw trance talent. And it's great that it's been a lot of DJs we have all been excited to see. The issue is, though, that us TAs and only a few others are the only ones who really know the DJs that are being booked. Not your casual clubber. What Ten has to hope for is that in the long run booking these up-and-comers pays off. We'll see.
Also, Mezzanine has done a fantastic job of booking the live acts and other popscene stuff...kudos to them. Just it sucks they are usually during the week and not the weekend lol. Kinda a smaller take on the type of bookings we are starting to see on some nights at Avalon in LA.
Anyhow, in the end if I was some outsider and had to choose a club to go to based on pure fun and all and all the clubs had the same quality music, I'd prob choose Ten just because I much prefer the crowd that goes there. Ruby's crowd has gotten better, 100000000X better than it was five years ago, but when Ten15's crowd is on point its certainly the most fun to be in.
Sunday night (off-peak night) parties at Ruby aren't really touched by anything else in the city these days though....but then again, don't think the club has so much to do with the vibe at that point since people going to special events on those nights are there for the DJ and don't really care about what the venue is....party could be anywhere and as long as the sound and lighting are on point, will get the same type of crowd and same type of atmosphere!
My 380 cents |
