i'm going to go ahead and guess that these stadiums were paid for by the following...
FIFA, the various sponsors (Adidas, Bud Light, etc - I mean , all that money they pay for the right to have exclusive advertising rights in their various fields must go to SOMETHING), and perhaps a small amount of government funding. But I'd guess mainly the first 2. |

didn't watch the games today besides best korea match, but did see the highlights. amazing goal for maicon.
will be interesting to see if best korea can pull off a win in the tournament given their huge focus on defense. would be crazy..... hell, portugal looked so so today and seemed to have problems getting much going.... a staunchy best korean defense could cause headaches for portugal if they have another game like today..same could be said for best korea against ivory coast if they don't start drogba
really has me excited for the next round of games |

maybe they should stop with those bees(vuvuzelas) so people will actually end up going to games.it's just a matter of time before africans in the US start driving around with those duct taped to their exhaust. |

The money those sponsors pay usually goes toward international commercial space, their logo to be featured as a halftime presenter, as well as the ads all over the stadiums... When we talk about actual stadium construction, in the billions of dollars, sponsors like Coca Cola or Adidas don't begin to cover those costs (unless of course they give the stadium name over to the corporation that paid for it)... |

| quote: | | Such boasts may well turn out to be true, for South Africa has spent more than $6 billion on stadiums, roads, airports and other projects. But Nelspruit, in preparing for its own six hours of championship soccer, is instead an example of the nation at its worst, with distressing inequality measured by some economists as the worst in the world and an epidemic of local corruption that often leads the downtrodden to rise up in anger. |
http://www.sa2010.gov.za/en/node/2926
| quote: | The major contributions of the South African Government are to:
Stadium and precinct development: R9.8 billion
Transport: R13.6 billion
Broadcast and telecommunications: R300 million
Event operations: R684 million
Safety and security: R1.3 billion
Event volunteer training: R25 million
Ports of entry infrastructure: R3. 5 billion
Immigration support: R630 million
Communications, hosting, legacy and culture: R504 million
These figures are national government spend and exclude the amounts spent by the nine 2010 FIFA World Cup host cities in preparing for the tournament.
Transport
Government is well on track with the rollout of the R13.6 billion Public Transport Infrastructure and Systems Fund Projects.
Construction projects include:
o BRT systems, public transport corridors, inter-modal facilities, freeway expansions and road upgrades.
ACSA is also spending R19.5 billion on airport upgrades to deal with planned capacity increases during and after the tournament with South Africas airports increasing their passenger capacity substantially in many areas such as parking, check-in facilities and baggage processing.
|
^^^ Note that these figures are only the federal government, and NOT the state and city governments' costs... |

Lol, that's what I said they sounded like, if a swarm of african killer bees attack the players. No one will ever know that they are coming until it's too late, HMHMHMHMHMHM (evil laugh with shifty eyes). |

Chile put on a show today... Sanchez is a player to watch, his price just tripled...
I think Spain and Chile are going to get out of the group, with Chile causing a lot of problems in the later rounds... |

yea my dad was telling me backkkk in the day when he was a kid
they used to have them at baseball games but banned them
i will say that if flew all the way to south africa to watch a game, only to be hearing that noise all game long i would be PISSED
you think they are loud on tv, try being there live lol you can only imagine
kinda on the topic of the cost's of the stadiums and the world cup
i saw an article in the paper saying how espn payed like $400 million for the world wide rights at this world cup, compared to when they only payed $15 million back in 1994 when it was hosted in the states, so i guess thats a good thing and the u.s vs england game was one of the most watched games ever in america like 17 million people were tuned in |
