You, like most people, are picking all the obvious picks!! I hope you remember last World Cup, the one before it, and the one before that, which were all about surprises...
You just picked the top 4 teams everyone would think are poised to win it, which happen to be the top 4 teams that consistently disappoint each and every time... I think we're in for yet another round of surprises!!
GO USA!!!! Italy has a surprisingly good squad too. I like this year's team way more than 2006.. Also look out for teams like Mexico and some of the Eastern European countries, who've been quietly pulling upsets over the overrated big Euro teams just the past couple years..
No not really I analysed this whole world cup, but I am biased towards the dutch, but I honeslty think they can do it this year. If they keep there players fit thoughout the tournament.
Yes there will be surprises, I think in the group stage, but when it comes to the knockout round I think it will be the same teams making the challenges.
The only reason I have spain in the third place match is because they won the euro, and it's pretty much the same squad. Otherwise I wouldn't pick them to past the round of 16, because they suck in the world cup.
Argentina it all depends on how messi plays that's it. Everyone else on that team is good, but with out messi they are ok.
I think South africa will come out of there group, in second, but It's up to france and mexico to battle it out. I favor the french to get out of that group, but that could be one of the suprises.
As for USA, I think they are overrated as always. I think they will be runners up in there group, but will probably lose to most likely germany in the next round. They are horrible defensivley. Don't know why people like "the guch" or however you spell his nick name. Donavon overrated. Tim howard is the best guy on the team, and he has a crappy defence in front of him, so he has a lot of work to do.
I suprised not that many people are picking brazil, but I think they will lose to holland in the quaters. Brazil just don't have that striker like ronaldo. yes they have fabiano, but in my opinion not good enough, but again it's brazil, and they can beat anybody when they are on.
Italy will lose to spain in the quaters, they are an old aging team, and I don't see them winning it back to back.
I could give my breakdown for each team, but I don't feel like typing that much, lol.
Oh, I always support palestine, but I think I might have to wait 50 years for them to even make it to the world cup.

True story!! I have a huge crew coming out to Tonic East for the US game this weekend (incluing one Brit!) LOL :)
I dont think its wrong for people to cheer for both the USA and their fav/native team. There are a lot of people who either a). take a lot of pride in their home countries and/or b). actually watch soccer and cheer for a certain team during the Euro Cup and other competitions. You grow a familiarity with the players and its hard NOT to cheer them on! :)
as for the gweed's, you are probably damn right. Most of them have no idea wtf they are talking about and have never watched "futbol" a day in their life
Ah well, I take ANY soccer support in the USA a good thing ;) Even if we can gain a few new fans out of a buncha idiots, I am ok with that....I would love soccer the just continue to grow here :) :) :)

are you rooting for them because you like them, or because they are obvious choices? :stongue: These are the two teams I would pick to win it all, despite all the random surprises. I love my Dutchies, but I see them losing in the semi's......They rarely can pull out the win, despite always being a threat! :(
*on that note, I really need to start studying the charts to see who would be playing who, should we get that far*

im rooting for them bc thats who i like this World Cup!! in sports, there really isnt an obvious choice bc ALWAYS happens, there will always be upsets, so its never too predictable. Spain doesnt really have much experience beyond the quarter and thats a HUGE factor in soccer- so itll be hard for them since there are great teams in it this year. However, they have built up their team and i believe they have potential to get thru the semis. Argentina, well they speak for themselves; theyve won what...2-3 World Cups?? and that was YEARS ago..its time they get another one and show the world who they are once again ;)
here are this weekends predictions:
Mexico, France, Greece, Argentina, England, Algeria, Serbia, Germany!
CHUKI-STATUS
can't wait for this....
My favorite : Italy and England

lol yes Im aware, I actually wrote that there are many crazy upsets in this event ;) Im just sayin....they are still the most obvious choices, based on talent and history. Im cheering for the Dutch, but if I actually had money riding on it, I would put it on one of these two teams!

As always and forever, I wil be rooting for GERMANY...they are my favorite squad in the way they play and I have roots in Germany...
BUTT thats not to say I don't root for the Americans, I think they have an AWESOME squad that is ready to compete past the first stage this year.
Besides all the tops teams (Brazil, Spain, Italy, Argentina, England, Holland) I think IVORY COAST is going to have an awesome world cup with or without Drogba...the team is still nasty..
I also think NIGERIA and CAMEROON will turn some heads this year as well as MEXICO....they have a stingy defense just like Italy that can shut down offenses....
I really believe you will see a rise from the African Nations....especially since its in Africa for the first time..
As far as the top teams go, Argentina have one of the best squads theyve had in a while, it's also been a while since England has done anything...
but as for me DEUTSCHLANDDDDDDD
edubbz
totally agree with you goonie...this year is NOT a year to sleep on Ivory Coast and USA- huge turnarounds from both teams so thats good!! but, im not expecting much from Mexico- they've fallen apart.
