Holland is surprisingly playing sub-par and were handed a gift.
Germany, on the other hand, looked like a freight train that no one can stop.. |

Both teams this morning are surprisingly terrible... What a boring game; there's been a few really dull games this past few days, I hope ratings aren't taking a hit...
Not one player on the Dutch side impressed me, other than Elia, he better start the next game...
Germany ROCKED OUT yesterday, that was some beautiful soccer... |

| quote: | The highest profile match of the World Cup, at least in the U.S., drew impressive numbers on ABC.
Saturday's USA/England World Cup match drew a 7.3 rating and 13.0 million viewers on ABC, according to Nielsen fast-nationals, up 66% in ratings and 92% in viewership from the only USA World Cup match on ABC in 2006 (4.4, 6.7 mil).
USA/England ranks as the most-viewed first round World Cup match ever, and the most-viewed U.S. National Team match since '94.
Including pregame coverage, the ABC telecast drew a 6.1 rating and 10.8 million viewers -- making it the fifth-most viewed World Cup telecast (men or women) since '94.
The match also aired on Univision. The Univision telecast drew 3.8 million viewers, equaling a combined audience of approximately 16.8 million viewers.
To put these numbers in perspective, the match drew more viewers than every game of the 2010 Stanley Cup Final -- including Game 6, which hit a 36-year high of 8.3 million viewers.
Though ABC's coverage trailed the first four games of the NBA Finals (14.1 mil, 15.7 mil, 16.0 mil and 16.4 mil), the combined audience on ABC and Univision topped each game. |

The first matches are hard to base anything on, it usually takes teams one match to get all the nerves out, and then they really start going. I think those teams that start geling late have the best chance of winning.
The dutch will hit top forum in the knockout stages.
Also teams that start really well, doesn't mean they will continue to play like that throughout the tournament. Some of them fiz out towards the later stages.
I think Germany will win all the matches in there group, but I think when they come up against one of the other favorites, it could be a different story. Won't be so easy. Germany are always favorites, but austrailia found some weakness in the second half, but when they went a man down, it was all over. Some of the better teams will exploite those weaknesses. |

yes, and this is Holland's THING: they go crazy in the beginning, just to lose in further rounds. I see this as a good thing, as their strategy was not to go *as* hard against the weaker teams, just to fizzle out. Hopefully they pick it up when tougher teams come around.
as for germany, yes, they played awesome soccer the other day, but lets not forget who they were playing against. Australia is not a good team, and they made them look silly. I expect more ocmpetition in further round (sorry if Im stating the obvious, I just think people are going OD with Germany, when they forget that they were playing the lowly Aussies). |

excuse me while i say this, but you're dead wrong. australia is not a bad team. they're #20 in the world, just 4 spaces below uruguay who gave hell to france. the fact that australia had a bad game doesn't make them a bad team. they're indeed a good team, but had a terrible day and none of their strategies were going well. sometimes that happens in sports. not sure how much u know about soccer, and i'm not here to question ur knowledge but it seems you need to learn a bit more about who australia is before you jump to conclusions that sound like you overheard at a bar or something. |

you question her knowledge...and then talk about fifa rankings. :stongue: :stongue:
you think FIFA rankings mean something, your arguement is invalid. |

I agree with the whole dissapointment thing, they were terrible today, I think... But the whole "they're old" thing is largely true... Their average age is 28, the exact same as it was last World Cup. Not to mention that maybe 1/4 of their returning players were on the field today...
Pepe was very impressive, none of the other guys were though... |
