TWO MORE DAYS! I CANT WAIT!
As Scoops said, we're all Americans and need to represent the people who are in South Africa representing us!
My parents are from Argentina so of course I always follow them and by no means are they just a one man team. The talent just on their forwards is out of this world - Messi, Tevez, Milito, Higauin and Aguero. They combined for over 120 goals this past season.
Holland on paper always have the best squad, but there are a lot of internal problems. Sneijder and Van Persie hate each other, and Robben, the best player on the team is doubtful.
England on paper are also world class, but with Rio out they have a big question mark.
I really liked Germany until Ballack was out - same for Ivory Coast, although I'm praying they get Drogba back.
Cinderellas always happen, but I think this year will be the battle of the giants.
Spain is the clear favorite, and I do think they will make it to at least the semis. As for me, I'm cheering our boys as well as my boys from South America.
Is anyone goes to any bars around NYC/North Jersey? I wanted to go to Nevada Smith's (same block as Webster Hall) but I heard 1. You need to be there by 7am and 2. they might not let any non-English supporters in.
I really want to be at a bar packed with other crazies for the big games!
LETS GO! |

totally agree with you goonie...this year is NOT a year to sleep on Ivory Coast and USA- huge turnarounds from both teams so thats good!! but, im not expecting much from Mexico- they've fallen apart. |
Im thinking Cameroon will be tough as well.
Not as confident about the USA. I watched a couple of the friendly games on TV and they looked sloppy. NOt sure if its because it was a friendly and they were going easy, but I wasnt extremely impressed. I am sure for the WC they will pick it up a few notches!! :D |

No, not all of us are American and some of us became citizens later, like me. I understand the pride to root for USA but I prefer a good game. I have been following Rooney for a long time and know how he plays and I don't watch US football much so for me, just a good game is enough.

I watch football all year and can give info on a few places-
Nevada Smiths- Chelsea bar, always packed, USA supporters are welcome but it won't always be friendly
Sixth Ward- Irish, friendly for all fixtures, has a great beer garden, expect it to be so friendly at times that people buy you rounds
Red Lion- Man U bar and lounge, may not be open for all games
Blue Seats- fairly friendly, really good wings
Oliva- mentioned this before, friendly, always no cover, expect a strong South American and Spaniard support, really great drinks and tapas
Expect a lot of places to have cover the further in it gets. If you really want a good time, look for regional places in the boroughs, might be a trip but always a good time. I have been here for every World Cup I can remember and went to games when it was in NJ, trust me, no matter where you end up, it is going to be fun. |

You better let me know when you're going. My friend is the manager and he is really cool. Went with a few TAs before and they loved it. They just added new screens just for World Cup and will be removing them after. |
