Ah, N.C. State was conference and West Virginia wasn't. Hmm, that significantly strengthens VTs schedule, in my eyes.
Still, I don't think VT is the caliber of Penn State, when you look at their record against big teams. Penn State has beat good teams all year including #6 Ohio State. When VT had the chance to do that, they couldn't get it done. Their somewhat weak schedule makes it all the more ambiguous about how theyd play in the Big One against an obviously cominant Texas squad (though, they havent played anyone besides Ohio State either).
Ohio State also adds intrigue to Texas/Penn state as the best defense in the country. Penn State and texas were both able to beat that defense, setting up, in a sense, two of the best offenses in the country.
Speaking of OSU, Id love to see them play Vick and the Hokies in the Orange Bowl.
If USC loses to UCLA, here an opinion on bowls:
Rose:
#2 USC vs. #1 Texas
Orange
#6 Ohio State vs. #5 Virginia Tech
Fiesta
#3 Penn State vs. #7 UCLA
Sugar
#? West Virginia vs. #4 LSU
If Texas loses to Colorado:
Rose:
#1 USC vs. #2 Penn State
Orange:
#4 Texas vs. #5 Virginia Tech
Fiesta:
#12 Colorado vs #? West Virginia
Sugar:
#3 LSU vs. #8 Notre Dame
And what if they both lose?
Rose Bowl:
#1Penn State vs. #2 USC
Orange:
#5 Virginia Tech vs. #6 UCLA
Fiesta:
#12 Colorado vs. #? West Virginia
Sugar:
#4 Texas vs #3 LSU |

Well like I said, I can't be held resposnible for the schedule this year. I wish Maryland and Virginia were ranked when we played them and I wish Georgia Tech, Boston College (and Florida State) were (are) ranked higher.
And what's funny is the same point you have on Virginia Tech is the same one I hold against USC :p hehe I think i made a post about this awhile back in this thread. |

I still do not get why everyone thinks if Georgia beats LSU for the SEC title, it is an upset. Georgia's 2 losses were to my Florida Gators when Shockley was out and then to Auburn in Shockley's first game back after injury. Might I add that this is the same tough Auburn team who missed a zillion field goals to LSU and ended up losing by 3? I think this is going to be a lot closer than most think and I will not be surprised at all if Georgia wins. I've been picking them for weeks now. Shockley is better than Russell and I think that will be the difference because the defences are pretty even.
If you can't tell I'm an SEC guy by now, then surprise!! I wish the SEC champ would play the ACC champ, but them's the breaks. |

Hey tribu, going back to the previous argument about who deserves what ranking, what do you think about the Longhorns position as #2 (sometimes #1) respectively? Do you think they deserve that spot? Granted they're undefeated (and they're the only team in the country besides USC to be undefeated), but if we're talking about strength of schedules, then I don't think Texas has any room to talk.
Their only big game was against #4 Ohio State, which they only won by 3 points. The only other ranked teams they played were Texas Tech (10) and Colorado (24). Undefeated is undefeated I know, but if we're talking about conference schedules and the like, it would seem almost (but mabye not quite)rdiculous to have Texas vying for the national championship.

It'll be an "upset" simply because LSU is ranked higher than Georgia both on AP Polls and BCS poll. Anytime a lower ranked team beats a higher ranked team you automatically think of it as an upset. Plus they're playing for conference championship. I think it'll be a close game as well. Both the Bulldogs and the Tigers have a lot to prove today, and I can see Georgia pulling away with a victory, I just don't think it'll happen.
An SEC v SEC championship game would be stellar. Next year tell your Gators to do better and i'll tell my Hokies to do better and hopefully we'll play each other in the Nat. Championship game ;) |

Yah, I guess if you consider ANY lower seat beating a higher seat.. but people are talkin like Georgia has NO chance... Shockley just lit one up right now!! 7-0 BULLDOGS!
I think you meant SEC v ACC championship game.. I like your idea though... Marcus Vick V Chris Leak for the national championship :D :D
Texas showed that it belongs in the Rose Bowl and USC is in the process of that too... this shall be good! |

I understand what you're saying, but yes, i think Texas has earned the right to play for the title. Going undefeated in a major conference is a major part of it. Did you see the game against Ohio State? I seem to remember you reading my play by play :p I think the way Texas won that game, coming from behind and snuffing Ohio State's comeback attempts with a late turnover (the only one of the game) really helped voters to that decision as well. Putting up almost 500 yards of offense and winning the ToP (time of Possesion) battle against the #1 defense in the country says alot about your team. Around here at least, many were saying the winner of ohio State/Texas would take on USC for the title and I'm not that suprised that things panned out this way. Beyond that, any time a challenge team (Oklahoma, Colorado, Texas Tech) faced the Horns in Big 12 play, Texas left no doubt about the outcome.
One thing I find is interesting is the Ohio State - Notre Dame bowl game that seems to be looming. The team that should've beat USC against the team that should've beat Texas may have alot to say about who wins the Rose bowl.
With the California clash more or less out of hand, I think Texas beats USC by about 6. Mack Brown has shaken the persona of the guy whocan't win the big one, and this team is much better than Oklahoma's squad last year. I really think theyre the better all-around team, and they will shut down Leinart, Bush, and White enough times to win the game. Keeping the Trojans off the scoreboard early will be one of the major keys.
Speaking of today, Georgia is dominating LSU. Though they only have a 2 score lead, the Tigers look totally flat, whereas Georgia seems to really want the title. LSU needs a peptalk at half time to come back and win this game, though I'm happy to see the dawgs playing well. Imagine how good they would be with Shockley around all year?
Georgia's punter just had one of the best punts I've ever seen with about 30 seconds left in the first half.
I still like Tech tonight, though this game should be closer than you might think. Bowden is the better of the coaches, though severely lacking in playmakers and general talent.
It looks like Georgia/West Virginia in the Sugar. That will be an interesting matchup and West Virginia has a better chance to win than you might believe. They have one of the best rushing offenses in the country, while their defense is in the top 20 in both passing and rushing.
I've been trying to find a friend or two to partner up on a ESPN Insider subscription since my last friend got out. And whats with this Dr. Pepper championship million dollar game? To win the million would be so tough. Did any of you vote for play of the year? That Alabama receivers catch against Sothern Miss was amazing and got my vote. That may be the single best reception on football history. |
