The worst part is that its not even a law enacted by elected officials. Again it's unelected court judges that do the dirty work. We are almost a dictatorship of unelected judges at times.

If airlines choose to give 2 seats for the price of one to fatties and want to make it an issue of customer service, then great. But the government and the judges need to butt out for once (pun intended)

courts and laws step in only when people can't find a friendly solution like in Jem's plane for example.

If that plane was full of TAs not wanting to move their righteous uncourteous ass, you can bet your fat ass that a law would be required.

If some fat needs two seats why would it bother you?

Its the principle of this matter that is irking ppl

(and/or the increased costs many perceive this law will now bring abt)

I do agree with some people who say that maybe a doctors note should be needed, only people who are clinically diganosed as obese should benefit from this. Otherwise any overweight person will try to demand two seats.

However, I guess I am left to ask what others are asking... whats next? If we make exceptions for the obese who else will we start making exceptions for? What about people with allergies to perfumes, should they get their own section in a plane? or should we all be forced to travel scent free?

It shouldnt bother anyone because they are not actually getting any more space than you are. Technically yes but physically no. So I dont really see why you are angry with this. It shouldnt bother anyone unless it interferes with there flight.

It is not about them getting more space, it is about these ppl getting more space for free meaning everyone else pays for them being fat.

Cost of the flight remains the same, but there is one less paying passenger, so the average cost increases.

Its not rocket science.

I thought the point of this is that now the seats are also mandatory. IE if i'm fat, the airline HAS to give me a seat, effectively forcing this business onto the airlines, who then in turn force it onto me?

What do you think would happen if an airline declined a fatty's request for 2 seats? Sued in court, and would lose the battle because of this decision.

Simple solution to the problem.

Allow the 2-seat only if you have a medical note from your doctor saying that you're fat because of your genetics/disease, not by choice.

i think you missed my point
