I think if the wording was more like "every person has the right to fit in his/her airplane seat", the public response would be a lot less negative.

Honestly.
Some people have ed up genetics so they are fat.
But for most people, they CHOOSE to be fat. They don't want to have a healthier lifestyle, don't exercise and gorge themselve with chippy pops and fat pills so they no longer walk, but they waddle.
them.
Can't wait until jennie puts her two cents into this :gsmile:

This is an interesting topic as not all obese people choose to be fat. Genetics play a major role as well as body type. There are 3 main types of a human body. Everyone is not classified into one of these 3, people are in between, so here they are.
So if genetics play such a big part why wasn't obesity a huge problem 100 years ago? 50 years ago?
Maybe the fact some people feel the need to wolf down two big macs at a time and sit on their couch for more than they're on their feet plays a bigger role in why there are so many obese people....

planes are zero fun to begin with, especially long haul flights. it is cramped enough. i've had screaming babies, smelly people, loud talkers (even if it is an overnight) and those die-hard readers (i thought i was bad) who keep that personal spotlight of HELL on all night to finish their book (regardless of the 6 people around them trying to sleep) - to add being overcrowded to that is asking for an economy class of unhappy travelers.

Not true. Just because you don't lose weight does not mean your not healthy. In a health class we watched a documentary about a man who was really fat but healthier than you and I. The guy did triathlons and had genetics so he couldn't really lose weight. He ran like 10K everyday and doctors said he was more healthy than the average person. So the guy was in really good shape even though he looked obese.

It wasn't as bad as now because diets have become tier and millions more different chemicals have been added. 100 years ago even 500 years ago there were still those people with those same type of genetics, it just wasn't as common. I'm sure now there's more of those types of people but that's all of because of greed and being lazy.

I'm sure that all 6 people who haven't already learned about this from school or TV or the internet will appreciate your contribution. However, the difference between these body types is not enough to account for morbidly obese people who actually take up two seats. You have to EAT and SIT to get that fat.
Body type determines the "natural" weight for a person. The farther one gets from that point, the more resistance the body puts up. I can gain weight just as easily as other members of my family can lose weight - the trick is keeping it there. In order to drop below, say, 140, I'd have to do more than just starve myself for months; I'd have to be running marathons in addition to several hours of exercise on a normal day. The so-called endomorphs may tend toward 200 or 250 or even 300 pounds and have trouble keeping it below that, but they also have to be completely sedentary and pig out constantly to get much heavier. The simplest exercise like a half-hour walk will burn off far more calories for them, due to their weight, than it would for the rest of us, so if they eat the same amount of food we do, they will lose weight.
Nobody is naturally 600 pounds and takes up two airline seats. Genetics no doubt play a factor - it would be virtually impossible for me to get that heavy - but it is absolutely insane to suggest that there isn't also a significant and easily mutable behavioural element in there.
