I agree.. when you buy a seat on a flight you are buying space. If you require 2 spaces you should pay for it. Whats next? Saying that trucks should pay the same as cars to park even though they are bigger? As a skinny person can i claim discrimination for not having the same ability to spread out so to speak on a flight??

On the same note, as a relations move by the airlines id at least offer the second seat at half price for fatties or something. But not for free.

Now some people are obese by nature and depending on their genetics, no matter how much they workout and how much cardio they do, they can't shed the fat to look skinny. So the people who are born this way IMO should not have to pay for 2 tickets because of their genetics, it's simply not fair. Companies should cater to all types of customers in some way. Now building a system where only obese people who became that way by being lazy, depressed, obsessed with food, etc should pay for 2 airline tickets as opposed to the large folks that are born that way would be impossible to determine for every individual and cost way too much for the airline to do. It's a hard subject and both sides have good arguments.

I see your point but we all have physical limitations by our very nature. We should know what they are and act accordingly. If you are too short to ride this ride or too fat to sit in one seat, thats life. Why should these companies or other's pay for it? Is "fat" the next victim's group that society is going to have to bend over backwards for?

In related news, Rita McNeil has just announced her new cross canada tour.

I don't know why there is such a debate about this. You take two cookies, you pay for two cookies. You go to the grocery store and you need two buggies, you take 2 quarters and you get two buggies. You don't say "well my groceries wont all fit into one so I should get an extra one for free". You take two pair of pants, you pay for two pair of pants. You take two seats, you pay for two seats. You take two of anything, you pay for two.

But this is canada where everyone is a victim. So we have to cater to these "victims". Just like how we have pregnant parking for those who cant walk to the front door but somehow can walk around the mall without problems, soon we will have fat parking im sure.

For those who still don't believe our judicial system is overrun with liberals, there's your proof. Exactly what law are they upholding, and/or what constitutional right are they protecting here?

I dunno how much of a victory this is. Do you know how humiliating it will be for obese people to have to specify exactly how fat they are when they are booking their airplane ticket? The whole process of actually getting the second seat has got to be pretty embarrassing.

maybe not so. purchasing a ticket might be like second nature to them.
"hello, Id like to book a flight. oh, and biggie size it please."

I can't believe the attitudes of people on here towards fat people....its actually shows how pathetic out society still is.

exactly, imagine if people that ODed, got liver cancer because they drink like morons or get lung cancer because they smoke like chimnees would not be covered by the health system, that would devastate most TAs here:rolleyes:

bigottery at its finest:stongue:

maybe we could compromise and have them pay for 1.5seats or if they get this deal why the hell don't mothers with children get the same. free seat for your infant or whatever.

Goddamn I ing hate fat people. Like they really deserve this kind of sensitivity. Yes, let's just validate/enable their sedentary lifestyle by giving them more room. Good ing job.

Instead of the extra seat, why not give them some coupons for Jenny Craig or some ? It's not my fault they can't get off their fat ass and exercise or eat properly. Ugh.

i saw the title of this thread and had to read it because i knew you won't be able to not say anything :tongue2

Errr, that wasn't one of the options. If they can't fit in one seat, they'll get two, but they'll have to pay for the second seat.

There is a lot more behind why a large number of these people are obese....unless you have walked in their shoes you really don't understand the psychological issues that most of them go through every day. I've been in their shoes and it wasn't because I ate like and was lazy.

Oh cry me a ing river, seriously. I could go on for hours about the "psychological issues" I had to deal with when I was in school. One of the most important things I ever learned in life was that you always have a choice: you can either flail frantically, cry for help, and drown in your own pathetic depressing issues, or you can take responsibility for your life and deal with them. And it's unbelievable how many people I meet who still don't understand that it's a choice.

Everybody has issues. Everybody. The difference is in whether one views them as mere challenges or hopeless and crippling disabilities. If there are blind, deaf, and terminally ill people who can handle their issues and still be productive members of society without imposing their problems on everyone around them, then so can the ing fatties.

Put the tub of ice cream back in the freezer, get off your ass, and walk around the block for half an hour. No excuses.

I'm not the type of person to point and laugh, I think that everybody should be entitled to live his or her life as he or she sees fit (and be prepared to deal with the consequences, of course), but it really fries me when I'm expected to feel sympathy for someone who made poor choices. I don't, I won't, and how dare you tell me I'm symbolic of society's ills for my callousness; it's your fault, not mine and not society's.
