| I have a genetic problem with not being able to pack lightly. Thus, I demand I get twice the amount of weight allowance than everyone else. |

i can't believe there are so many excuses being made for people the choose to lead unhealthy lifestyles...give me a break..yes, genetics plays a part in it..people can be predisposed to being overweight..but that does not mean that you HAVE to be....i watch what i eat every single day..i don't get to eat half the i want..but i make healthy choices....i go to the food court and order chicken and veggies and as i walk to my table i want to kick every fat person i walk by that is stuffing their faces with all the crap i want to eat..! I never, ever see a fat person in a food court eating anything remotely healthy..so where are all these fatties that just can't help being fat and aren't eating for 10 people?
Nobody is saying that fat people shouldn't get two seats...that's agreed upon....the point is they shouldn't get the extra seat for FREE! |

and what about all the people that choose to smoke and abuse their health in different ways?
shouldnt they have to pay for treatments more than the person who lives a healthy lifestyle and doesnt use OHIP as much as the chain smoker? |

so basically those who were of the opinion that obesity is pre-disposed through genetics or some other form of disability won their case.
And thus those who are obese as a result of lifestyle choices or diet and NOT through pre-disposition enjoy some of the windfall.
whoohoo time to get fat!

I am sure I have posted this before but my take on all this is to have flights paid by weight - let's face it - the fuel surcharges are ridiculous so let's all stand on a huge scale with our luggage and coats and pay per kilo - absolutely the fairest way to go about it. I would welcome it in fact, would really incentivise me to lose a few pounds before my trips home :) then I wouldn't give a if fatty had a whole aisle! |
I like your idea! Actually they did that on a flight we took in the Philippines that was on a very small crop plane and could only have so much weight (including people)...it wasn't THAT bad. Although I did watch what I was eating for most of the trip :p
Needless to say there weren't any fatties on that flight! |

| You can tell all the people in this thread who are fat or used to be fat, and/or have fat friends/loved ones. |

| Oh FFS, with the whining and complaining on this board about guest lists and track lists and other perceived forms of self-entitlement, I hardly think it's a big deal for an overweight person to get 2 seats on a plane that likely wasn't going to be filled anyways. |

I dont agree, sorry rachel. I have had problems with my weight my entire life, and while I am certainly not obese, I am not small either.
But does anyone bother to ask how hard I work at simply maintaining my weight? I work out 4 days a week and eat damn near close to perfect, but cant lose weight due to hypothyroidism. They certainly are not going to ask my lifestyle habits at a ticket window, nor do most people CARE.
I fit into an airplane seat easily, with room to spare, but I should have to pay more than the 120lb bitch that is sitting next to me just because I am bigger? hell no. People see larger people and automatically assume that they are fat, lazy heffers, but they dont bother to ask what they are doing about it. So, back to my original post I say this:

Personally I think you should have to have a "doctors note" to get the two seats.
lol as funny as that sounds, let me explain:
As mentioned in the thread, some people are obese NOT by choice. They will eat healthy, exercise, etc....but their weight is affected by something they cant control (ie: genes, chemical balance, thyroid problems, etc....)
I think that people who dont have a CHOICE in being large should be treated fairly (as a disablity)......but people who are just lazy and chow down on Whoppers and White castle should not benefit from this. Like Kai Lee said, someone will have to pay for it, and I dont think its fair to pay for a person's lifestyle choices.
In other words, people who have a physicians review that their obesity, in fact, can NOT be controlled, should have more freedoms than fat ass heffers. :tongue2 |

Wow at some of the responses.
How the is this bothering you all so much? I doubt any of you fly that often for this to be such a big issue. I fly quite frequently and I doubt I’m ever going to be bothered or delayed by the fact that "oh no, one person is taking up two seats!! What am I gonna do?!?! WILL THERE BE SEATS LEFT?!?"
You guys are pathetic; I love how people have such strong views on that’s actually going to have very little effect on them - if that.
|
Its good to see strong views on something that would otherwise be considered trivial. Its the apathy of the public that allows inane laws such as this to be passed. Yea it may not affect you directly, but there definitely are implications to allowing these ridiculous laws to slip under the radar.

...you’re an idiot if you honestly believe obesity is not a disability, and the overall lack of knowledge in this thread concerning the biological aspect of the topic is stupefying. |
I couldnt agree more. Can someone name the different body types for me again? |
