Wow at some of the responses.
How the is this bothering you all so much? I doubt any of you fly that often for this to be such a big issue. I fly quite frequently and I doubt I’m ever going to be bothered or delayed by the fact that "oh no, one person is taking up two seats!! What am I gonna do?!?! WILL THERE BE SEATS LEFT?!?"
You guys are pathetic; I love how people have such strong views on that’s actually going to have very little effect on them - if that.

Pathetic is a society that allows people to consume so much, and be so fat. |
It’s so sad how quickly these views would change if "obese people" were to be changed with something else...you know, another type of DISABILITY.
In short: this does not affect most of you, you’re an idiot if you honestly believe obesity is not a disability, and the overall lack of knowledge in this thread concerning the biological aspect of the topic is stupefying. |

| It's not a disability. I don't remember seeing one fat ass in a hundred when I was ten, now, it's every third. It's a lifestyle choice. We should push people to be better by not accomodating their laziness and gluttony. |

| I know some very large people who probably eat better and work out more then 90% of the people here. If you honestly think that larger people are simply larger because they eat junk food and are lazy then you are a complete ing idiot. |

| I guess no one remembers the good 'ol days when fat people didn't roam the streets like hoards of insatiable zombies. I do, it's called the seventies. pre-tim hortons, pre-mcdicks, pre-you get my ing drift. People are fat out of their own doing, end of story. Maybe, just maybe, five percent of the fat slobs out there are actually legitimately fat, the rest, lazy ing slobs. |

Are they large enough that they would require TWO ing seats on an airplane? You guys keep saying this, but none of you make the claim that these 'friends' would ever need two seats. We all know the difference between someone who is big, but solid and healthy, probably like these people you describe, and someone who is 450 pounds because they eat too much and watch CSI 24 hours a day. The ratio of people who are large enough to require two seats, and actually LIVE a healthy lifestyle, compared to those who require the extra seat because they are lazy is something liiiiiike... 0:~ Because they just don't exist.
I've never, in my entire life, met someone who lives a healthy lifestyle, and is so fat that they would take up TWO seats of ANYTHING. I know plenty of people who are fat and blame their genes, but do absolutely nothing about it, and I do know of ONE case in my personal life that supports most the idea that obesity is primarily a result of a poorly-chosen lifestyle.
One of my good friends through high school has that there 'fat gene' you guys keep calling a disability, through high school, he was an easy 350+ pounds and possibly DID require two seats on a plane (he managed just fine in a movie theatre though). 7 years later, he's working out, still big, at around 250, but there's no way he would ever need a second seat ANYWHERE. His change in lifestyle brought him down to a healthier size, despite his genetics. Genetics are an EXCUSE for lazy people who eat too much.
Get off your ing ass and lose the weight, or suffer the consequences of your lifestyle decisions. Being fat is NOT a disability.
That all being said, I don't fly enough that I give two s whether fat people should have to pay for two seats. If you ask me, it should be based on the total weight that you are bringing onto the plane, regardless of how many seats you need. More weight = higher cost to the airline, so it's only fair that we would be charged per pound (or kilogram I suppose here in Canada) |

Umm I fly to and from Shanghai at least twice a year on Air Canada and am bothered by the fact we'll have to pay for these people getting two seats for the price of one with HIGHER TICKET PRICES.
It's bull....if they take up two seats they should have to pay for the extra space their whopper infested lardasses use.
What next? They get two meals for the two seats they take up? |

I would rather have that 400 + pound person take up two seats on a plane then have them squished into one seat and have to sit beside them for hours on a plane being completely uncomfortable.
There is a lot more behind why a large number of these people are obese....unless you have walked in their shoes you really don't understand the psychological issues that most of them go through every day. I've been in their shoes and it wasn't because I ate like and was lazy. |

The one out of every thousand flights where there is someone who will need more then one seat will not increase the cost of your flight. There are a lot of other things that will increase your flight before that. Flying twice a year is not often at all. |

I didn't include the monthly flights I take within Asia. now that it's easier for them to fly more obese people will fly hence taking up seats that could have been bought and generated revenue for the airlines.
Anything that can make money for the hurting airlines they'll jump on and raising ticket prices because of this is something they could very well go for. |
