It angers me when people have no sympathy for something that people DO stuggle with. I do think that ALL people, skinny and fat, should have a healthy way of living. And some people just dont do that, regardless of weight or doctors concerns. THOSE people I have very little sympathy for.

But I DO understand big people's struggles and how hard it is just to stay at your CURRENT weight, let alone a desirable weight. Some people are big AND healthy and I dont think its fair to judge those people. They are labeled and discriminated against without anyone finding out if they are in fact, doing anything about it.

Thats the that really pisses me off. I HATE when people assume that I am lazy and eat 5 pieces of cake/a whole pizza pie a day..... when in fact I work VERY hard at maintaining my weight (losing weight is hardly an option anymore). And I am NOT the only one with this issue.

that is all ;)

Do you think fat people are the only ones who struggle with body image issues? Do you think fat people are the only ones who struggle to exercise and eat right?

Not directed at you, but I get really irked by fat self righteousness. You know, like fat chicks who rag on skinny girls (because they're jealous) and say like "Someone give her a sandwich!" off.

What I wrote initially came out wrong. People have no idea the struggles each person has so not fair to say stop eating those burgers or eat a damn burger. People of all sizes struggle with body image and its not black and white. I see where Jenny and Kelly are coming from.

Word. And there's a lot of that, even though everyone has their own issues.

I have a bigger frame, from my fathers side and know if i let myelf go I can end up like them, So I work out and am in the gymn alot in order to make sure that doesnt happen.

Damn you quoted me before I could change my previous post.

Yeah I don't go to the gym to look a certain way. I go to de-stress mainly and be healthy.

that is an interesting counter point.

we're used to a business having a more fixed 'cost of doing business' or 'cost of goods sold', literally on a per transaction basis. this is a case where that cost has doubled by providing the extra seat...well, not so much the cost has doubled, but the revenue from their fixed costs of the flight has been cut by the 1 fare.

your point makes a lot of sense...I just can't help but sympathize with the business having to absorb the cost/lost revenue, even if it doesn't often occur. obviously this case isn't really about money...but rather whether or not the business has to provide 'equal accommodation' for the same price, regardless of underlying cost.

absolutely not. I know most people have something that they struggle with, and I also know that there are a ton of skinny people out there working hard to maintain their health and bodies.

I was referring to the fact that you dont seem very sympathetic or engaging to people who are larger and have these issues. I have seen your "fat comments" all over the boards, and while I know they are not directed at me, I take offense because its something I have to think about at every meal, everytime I look in the mirror, every time I look at a scale, everytime I get up in the morning to work out, etc.

Personally I have a decent view of myself. I am certainly not at a weight I WISH I was but I am pretty content with the fact that I KNOW I wake up and exercise and that I am not shoving my face full of artery-clogging-fat. But does the scale ever change? Does my body ever lose an inch? THAT is the frustrating part. All work and NO reward is extremely draining and mentally challenging, and it does not help when people make comments or assume you are just a fat, lazy person.

Skipper <3 :) thanks mama at least someone gets what I am trying to say here. lol Im definitely alone on this topic I think! lol ;)

You're right, I'm not sympathetic to people who make excuses for things. And I'm even less sympathetic to obese people, especially because I work in health care. I thought I made it pretty clear that I'm unapologetic about it.

And again, you think you're the only person who worries about that stuff every time you look in the mirror/step on the scale/whatever? That doesn't really play into my sense of pity. Sorry.

I agree with the idea that a customer pays, then the business accomodates their customer.

Businesses also have the right to refuse to do business with a customer, or impose certain conditions (including a variation in price) before doing business.

The responsibility of accommodation is by contract alone. The advertising and sale price is an offer to a customer to enter into a contract. The actual contract may specify any number of additional conditions, provided the conditions are legal.

If a customer meets/accepts all conditions set out in the contract and pays the fee, only then is it binding and only then is the business required to either accommodate the customer or provide a full refund. If the customer wishes to alter or cancel that contract after paying, that is solely up to the seller's discretion.

Accommodation is expected after the sale is final; before that, everything is negotiable.

If you've paid the fare, but before paying you agreed to a contract that effectively says: "This is how big our seats are, and by accepting this fare you warrant that you will be able to fit in one on the date and time specified", then the airline doesn't owe you , legally or morally, if you can't meet your end of the agreement.

But I suppose failing to read the fine print is also a "disability".
