You think? Because it doesn't happen if I just send a new text. And the icon remains there even after they reply...

Well, in your last post you said it's not a delivery notification... Are you totally sure? If not delivery, and not "message read" then what could it really be?

I don't have the same phone (I have an S3 with Jellybean though)... the only thing I can compare it to is Whatsapp, where when I send a message I get a little green tick just after, then a second later a double-tick icon (presumably indicating that the message has been passed on). If you're using an app for texting, then it might just be a notification that the app has forwarded your text from their server, or whatever it is.

Only thing I can think of :conf:

[Edit] - Wait, this only happens with some people you text? Not everyone? Now I'm confused...

An Android-to-Android thing? The people you text, where you don't get this icon thingy, are they Android users? Or iPhone users? This is kinda interesting, lol.

it means your text hasn't been sent. end of story. it doesn't matter that your next text goes through, to the same person, or to other people. the icon you're referring to means that particular text hasn't gone through. You can select that text and pick resend.

BOOM! Another mystery solved.

Everyone is a winner in this mystery... it IS a delivery notification. Delivery notifications will only be displayed and returned for SMS/MMS on the same network ie. Rogers, Bell, Telus GMS vs. CDMA etc. There was known issue with 4.2.2 where even when the feature is turned off, the delivery notification would show up with same carrier communication sporadically and intermittently even tho the feature was turned off in options.

I turned the feature on and did tests with a few friends from different carriers and the notification is displayed with other Rogers customers (my carrier) but not with out. Did a side by side test with another Rogers phone, you get the icon when delivered, not read like you would in BBM or WhatsApp.

I know, I get curious about the stupidest things. I always want to know what things are and why and more. :toothless

Ha, cool :) I didn't think of the carrier-to-carrier thing. Nice one.

Alright... so I think I've found my favorite app! GlowFly..

Convenient notifications for new SMS/MMS messages, missed calls and battery level alerts that are highly customizable to suit your needs and style. Extend the notifications with our ever growing catalog of themes and plugins.

http://glowflyapp.com/

GlowFly Google Play Store

Well worth the $1.30, sweet popups, customizable ringtones/notifications for certain contacts (great for having my SMS alerts silent and not pop up, have friends each have their sound and theme for popup, emergency contacts will alert on phone calls, etc). Sleek looking as well.

Anyone know what this means? It only shows up on some txts, not all. It's weird because it happens to the same person not certain people. ie. it's not a delivery notification for carrier to carrier. Delivery notifications are off.

And I know they received the txt, because they reply to it with context. Looked online and couldn't find anything. Anyone know what the difference is between the one in yellow and the one in red?

It is a delivery notification.

That icon only showed up for me, when I turned that on.

You should look into rooting your phone and flashing it with MIUI if you like these kinds of neat shortcuts/notifications.

Interesting.

I recently went back to the stock Cyanogenmod messenger since PansiSMS seemed to be hogging some of my battery life. Turns out the stock messenger is just as good if not better. Comes with pop up notifications and with the ability to quick reply, mark as read or delete in the pull down menu.

Oh, and check out Tasker. Very complicated app, but it really takes your phone to a whole new level of smartness.
