i have a healthy dose of respect for the yankees, but NOT of their free spending ways, especially since it hasn't gotten them a world series ring since 2000. paul o'neill anyone? |
you have to at least respect the fact that the yanks are spending money because they're committed to winning year after year |

i still think maddux is a better pitcher overall, his mechanics and control are much better than pedros
also helps that he's quite humble instead of pedros flamboyant attitude-kinda makes him look childish. maddux is an icon to fundamental baseball in how he carries himself on and off the field, his mechanics in pitching, and his pitch selection and control. |

Greg Maddux 162 Career AVG:
233.7 IP, 216 H, 88 R, 48 BB, 161 SO, 1.132 WHIP
Pedro Martinez 162 Career AVG:
221.3 IP, 168 H, 73 R, 58 BB, 252 SO, 1.02 WHIP
And here's something I find interesting:
Maddux' ERA and the league ERA over the course of his career:
3.01 ERA, 4.15 lgERA
Not too bad. 1.14 runs better than the league over the course of his career.
But... Perdo's ERA and the league ERA over the course of his career:
2.72 ERA, 4.50 lgERA
1.78 runs better than the league over the course of his career.

Mike Piazza hit HR #400 today
came in the bottom of the 9th, with the Padres down, 3-1
too bad no one was on base at the time |

Bonds hit HR #711 today. Off Billy Wagner. To tie the game at 7. Ugh.
All three of Bonds' HRs have been to the opposite field. Perhaps he should be pitched inside. |
