I know not many, if any, of you guys follow the minor leagues. But I posted this in the Sports Discussion baseball thread and figured I might as well do it here as well.

Henry Owens is in the Mets minor league system in Double A. He's their closer. His stats... are... crazy. Just crazy. I've been paying attention since he had like 4 IP and 9 Ks, but he's moving towards "Has anyone ever done this before?" territory:

13.1 ip, 4 hits, 5 walks, 2 ER, 31 Ks

Yes. 31 Strike Outs in 13.1 IP. That's 40 outs recorded, 31 of them by Strike Out. Yikes.

Ok, the Mets have INSANE setup guys as it is. Throw this kid into the mix, all you would ever need is 5 quality innings out of a starter, pitch Heilman, Dirty, Owens, and Wagner. Jesus, forget scoring on the Mets after the 5th. ROFL!

On the other hand, if this kid is really THAT good, and the Mets are that confident in him, they could prime him as a setup guy - than trade Wagner for a quality starter. Similar to what the Orioles did with Ryan - except they didnt trade him. :p

Well... here are his negatives:

He's 28.

So... yeah. I expect him to move up to AAA and get ROCKED and never hear from him again. As for trading Wagner... you crazy? Even if they wanted to trade Wagner, who would take him? He's got a large ass contract.

Im just blabbing stuff, I dunno, hehe.

On the other hand, I could see some teams becoming very interested in Dirty Sanchez as a closer, could turn out similar to the Tom Gordon story.

If I was the Yankees GM, I would definitely look into it because Mariano doesnt have many more years left in him, and it would be very beneficial to them to lock up someone solid to take over the duties.

wow, the Mets actually win a series in Atlanta!
Tom Glavine actually wins a game against the Braves in Atlanta!

they go for a sweep tomorrow, which would put them 8 games ahead
Either way, they lost only 1 series in the month of April
verndogs

Gonna cost only $1499 :wtf:

2 big series starting tonight:
Mets vs. Phillies - Phils are 4 games behind, but on an 8-game winning streak. I hope the Mets win at least one of the games, as a Philly sweep would pull them to just 1 game behind.

Yanks vs. Red Sox - just like the last time they met, they're tied for 1st place in the AL East.
Isn't tonight Josh Beckett's first appearance at Yankee Stadium since his World Series-winning performance in 2003?

It's too bad there are forecasts for rain throughout the week
I hope that doesn't come to fruition, and dampen the fun (literally)

Speaking of rain, the last Yanks-Sox game at Fenway was rained out, so it will be made up as part of a double-header on Aug 18. That will be the start of a 5-game series that weekend.

Randy Johnson doesn't make it through the 4th inning

Melky Cabrera already having problems in the field in his first day back in the bigs - dropped the Manny pop-up (partly due to the wind), after a 12-pitch at-bat

bad news for the Yanks, as Hideki Matsui broke his wrist

he joins Sheffield on the DL

What a comeback (or you could say stinker by Johnson) as Mets win the first game of Subway Series #1
D-Wright game-winning hit off Rivera!
