I'm more excited about the deal today. It's been growing on me. Abreu is a walk machine. Starting pitchers are gonna get worn down by the 5th inning. As a result, the worst part of a team's pitching staff, the middle guys, will be in the game sooner. Moneyball logic of course.

Lidle can eat up some innings and let the patient offense comeback in the end of games. I like it.

Big Bust...he just irritates me with his inconsistent performances. Weird to see a guy detiorate so badly from just 2004.

The Yankees lineup is absurd now, if constructed correctly. I could see Torre ing it up though and batting Abreu 6th or 7th and not 2nd or 3rd.

A-Rod should be dropped to 5th and Abreu should swing 3rd.

Damon, Jetes, Abreu, Giami, A-Rod, Posada/Bernie

If there is any insight to if matsui, sheff, or cano back in the lineup, i think the fall will prove the yanks to be a power house. Granted godzilla and sheff will take alot of time to get back into it, but if they do, i think the lineup is solid through out. I like Melky batting in the 2 hole with Jetes leading off as well with Bubba holding the 9 spot.

Yanks trade Shawn Suckon err Chacon for Craig Wilson. He plays 1B/OF. .267 avg with 13 hr's and 40+ Rbi's. Probably means Andy Phillips is getting the heave ho. Thank God.

Sucks about Dirty. But, it couldn't be helped. I love the Nady for Hernandez/Perez deal. If Perez can regain anything from his '04 year, that's a steal of a deal. The Mets become instantly better in RF with a Chavez/Edge platoon and probably won't lose much at the plate. I'm happy with that deal.

But yeah, it does suck about Dirty. If I were the Mets, I'd send Pelfrey back to AAA and throw him in the pen to see what he can do there for a half year. Perhaps he could be the Mets version of Liriano.

Anyone else think its absolutely nuts that Soriano didn't get traded!? Jim Bowden sucks.

Since I missed the thing about the Yankees lineup, I want to comment on that... I agree with Shamus that it could potentially be the most insane lineup ever, but Torre could and might it up...

This is how I would structure it when everyone is healthy:

Damon, Jeter, Abreu, A-Rod, Sheffield, Giambi, Matsui, Cano, Posada

At the current state:

Damon, Jeter, Abreu, A-Rod, Giambi, Posada, Bernie, Melky, Cairo

And see... you'd fail. That's something Torre could do, though I still think he'll put Abreu too high. Those players SHOULD be:

Damon, Jeter, Abreu, Giambi, Rodriguez, Matsui, Sheffield, Cano, Posada.

Mama mia! That is the greatest lineup I have ever seen. Probably the best in the history of the game.

I dont know if Id want Giambi in cleanup with a .260 avg, but on the flip side, when you have 3 people batting ahead of him that can hit .300+ and can steal bases, he would get ALOT more sac fly's.

I think A-Rod and Giambi can be rotated depending on whos hotter, same with Matsui and Sheffield. Its nice having someone in the 7 spot that can hit 30HRs. :p

But we do agree that Abreu should hit 3rd - he wont hit alot of HRs, but you give yourself another pair of legs that knows how to run bases, and will get alot of RBIs with Damon and Jeter ahead of him, so you have 3 hitters can hit and steal - its amazing. And although hes aging, Sheffield can still run too.
