did anyone hear that the blood on the sock was fake?

Did Mariano Rivera get the memo not to choke?
Vlad
That memo needs to be sent to A-Rod too.

i think it was accidently addressed to wakefield.. you can pick on whomever you wish, but it really says a lot about how much you know about baseball to make fun of possibly the best relief pitcher to ever throw a baseball.

I know he's a great pitcher but he still choked against the Diamondbacks AND the Red Sox in the playoffs/world series.Pedro Martinez was one of the best pitchers of all time but he pitched awfully against the yankees several times. Rivera is the best closer in the history of baseball imo. If you feel proud that your yankees hit one out against a knuckball pitcher (Wakefield) then more power to ya ;)

Fyi. I've been playing baseball for 16 years....varisty captain, recruited by colleges for pitching....I guess I have no clue at all about baseball :)
kid nyce
the funny thread already =P lol GO YANKS!

You're absolutely right. He proves that fact when he's still able to be dominate even though he lost velocity on his fastball. I still miss the 98/99 seasons when he just embarassed hitters with his bugs bunny change up and amazing fastball when it still hit up to 97 98 99. It was just a sight to see. I missed maybe one or two of his starts all season on tv.

Id rank Pedro Martinez in the top 5 pitchers of all time. Why? Because he has consistently put up top stats his through his career, and he's doing it in an era dominated by hitters.

I agree and he can still dominate even if one or more of his pitchs aren't working for him in a game or if his velocity is not very high.

My opinion is that Pedro Martinez IS the best pitcher of all time. I threw up a whole bunch of facts to back it all up somewhere in the baseball thread last year. The simplest reason is ERA+:

http://www.baseball-reference.com/l...us_career.shtml

# ERA+ - the ratio of the league's ERA (adjusted to the pitcher's ballpark) to that of the pitcher. > 100 is above average and < 100 is below average. lgERA / ERA

1. Pedro Martinez (33) 166 R
2. Lefty Grove+* 148 L
3. Walter Johnson+ 146 R
