Well, maybe Mets fans get their wish, with 8 chances to clinch at home.
If the Mets can't get it done during that time, then they don't deserve to win the division or be in the playoffs.
Such awful play over the weekend in Pittsburgh, and hurting their chance at 100 wins as well.
Maybe it's a good thing that the 1986 Mets needed 6 chances to clinch, or else we'd already see many fans jumping off bridges by now. |

After 18 years, and 4 tries, it's about friggin time!
Ladies and gentlemen, your 2006 National League East Champion NEW YORK METS!
Whoever was able to make it to the game sure was lucky. Hopefully it's just the first of more and bigger celebrations to come. If not, then at least there was that special moment. |

i hope so too. i live in a house with 4 of my friends, all met fans. i can only imagine the celebration we would have should the mets go all the way.
i think from what i saw last night, most of the players did party hard just in case they dont get to celebrate again. either that or the fact that it's been 18 years since this has happened, so either way they are entitled :D |

They had incompetent people putting the team together then. Top 5 is irrelevant when the money is being spent poorly. The payroll is actually the same this year as it was 2 or 3 years ago. The money is just spent in better places. |

thet won a championship in the late 70's with the Bronx Zoo, should see the same result this year, drama breeds winning in sports today |

Yanks clinch in a loss, and on the road
Mets and Yanks division champion apparel already available at Modell's (at least in Times Square)
Funny call I heard on WFAN the other night, with the caller complaining about how the Yanks didn't try to clinch for the fans at home (which would've required back-to-back doubleheader sweeps against the Sawx).
Anyways, should be interesting to see how well Sheff plays 1st base |

The Los Angeles Daily News' Doug Padilla is reporting the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim may make a serious run at acquiring 3B Alex Rodriguez from the New York Yankees if Rodriguez requests a trade or the Yankees decide to shop him around. If the deal goes through, the Yankees figure to ask for no less than SP Ervin Santana, RP Scot Shields, OF Chone Figgins and a high-level prospect.
This is pretty amazing, and in the interest of the Yankees future - it could be a good deal. Ervin is young with a rocket arm, Shields is probably in the top 3 RP in baseball... Chone is chone, he wont give you 40HRs and 100+RBIs like Alex, but he will get on base and steal like 40-50 bases.
On the flip-side, with Philip Hughes coming soon... its ing A-Rod. |
