The Russians probably bombed them with impunity..
Doesnt seem like it was from air bombardments - they look burned up and have serious damage from the sides and underneath, in many places. Looks like some RPG-type weapons, anti-tank mines and related weapons. Plus some of these tanks are hugging walls and trees, among other obstacles. I came upon an impression that after one tank got knocked out, others were trapped and were destroyed mercilessly by anti-tank weapons. Urban warfare has been a traditional graveyard for tanks, I recall the famous Grozny battles during 1990s where Russian tanks were destroyed by the hundreds. Urban warfare has made tanks obsolete. Kinda odd to see Georgians send tanks it before they levelled all the buildings.
But despite the claim that Tskhinvali was completely levelled, as Russian media claims, I saw many buildings in the videos still intact, with some holes and all windows smashed out. Some Ossetians compared it to Stalingrad of the WW2 days, but that obviously is grossly inaccurate. There's nothing that can compare to Stalingrad's ruins.

Here's one of the video clips that are embeddable, most others are not and have to be viewed from Vesti website directly.
Some of these Georgian tanks look like they've been hit from above. This is the video of the Vesti.ru Russian journalist group. The last few seconds of the video is where they get hit by Georgian special forces, and in the last second of the video the cameraman and couple of his colleagues sustain light injuries. Noone's to blame - why travel with a military convoy?
At the beginning of the video clip, South Ossetian troops are having a little officers meeting discussing how they will retake Tskhinvali and receiving directions. Half way through the video, there's a disabled Georgian tank and Russian soldier throws a grenade inside.

I still can't believe that Georgia even bothered fighting Russia.. I mean come on..It's f*cking RUSSIA FFS!
Russia could put up a decent fight with the USA or China today. What chance did little Georgia have? They should have done everything possible to avoid war, but they didn't..and are now paying the price.

Tbilisi is being fortified as are surrounding towns. Russia has control of the most important strategic points...bridges, crossroads, east-west highway... This is a bear versus a cat and it doesn't look good for our Georgian friends.

There's already a huge wikipedia page on the 2008 Ossetia War...
:haha: I dont think there's any relevance to that conflict ... Especially when you look at how this war started
I am glad that Russia called for peace. Long time coming. Now, hopefully, a good and long lasting peace and compromise can be reached ...
BTW, those videos on CNN are biased - its propaganda bull: they are talking about Russian agression against "one of the best" reformer democratic countries (Georgia) and at the same time showing damaged building and crying civilians, so it would give a wrong impression that its Georgian civilians who are hurt and Georgian buildings damaged. While its obvious those are actually South Ossetian images, mainly from Tskhinvali ...

I'm just watching a live interview with Saashkvili on CNN. That guy doesn't know when to keep quiet. The russians decided to spare him, and the first thing he does when he gets to speak publicly is to attack russians, deny that the georgians started the attack, announce that he will never accept the breakup of georgia and make more outrages claims about racial cleansing.
Well at least this time while giving an interview he is isnt standing behind the EU flag as with every interview he did in the alst few days.

Like many NATO and EU officials said, thank god we didn't let them in.
