Russia sending tanks in. Guess they're back on track like they were in the good old days. :)

But seriously, wtf is Georgia thinking? This is really gonna screw them bigtime.

Georgia supposedly shot down two russian planes. This is no longer mounting tensions, this will be Iraq style.

I am confident that Russia will lose the war.

lmao, are you serious? Last I heard Russia was in the top 3 in the world behind the USA as far as military power goes...

Georgia? WTF? Do they really pose any threat to Russia? What are they thinking?

read first pg. georgia has a territory that wants to join russia. russia does not want conflict so they are avoiding anything serious until russia got violently attacked by georgia. georgia has the backing of the US and the US has given it weapons more weapons are sure to come. i believe with the help of the us georgia does stand a chance.

Sure, it has backing of the US, but I doubt that will help much. 10 years ago when Yeltsin was in power, maybe. Now - not a chance. The two regions are mostly russian populated, so there isn't any chance of guerilla warfare like in Afghanistan or Iraq. That would be the only way to fight this war for Georgia, and it would be relevant only if Russia goes to ivnade the whole of Georgia which it probably won't.

This might turn really ugly. However, it was pretty expected to happen sooner or later imo. But yeah, I think South Ossetia should be independent if they want to.

It's funny though how Russia's foreign policy is "not to meddle in other countries internal affairs". Right.

I don't think they are. They are only going into regions with large russian speakers. Not other regions, its up to Georgia to decide whats its going to do. And it seems that Georgia does not want to let those states to go so russia will defend the states until the georgians stop attacking. unless medvedevia decides to invade all of Georgia, which he won't.

Krypton
Though I don't agree with the Georgian invasion, Russia needs to stay out of it.
