Call me crazy, but I'm kinda sad that they'll be bringing in experts to deal with the dust issue. All that dirt made it feel like a proper underground rager! Now I know, the last thing made events needs is to have someone seriously screw themselves because of lung damage, but still... :p |
you're crazy.
:tongue2 |

If you had upper respiratory problems it was probably a sickness, not the dust. I was in the Sunday school tent that probably had the worst dust and was fine by the next morning. Same with my gf who is the most prissy person I know. It really wasn't thaaat bad. |

actuallllyyy....no i got very sick as did another friend- we both had to be treated by doctors. I have acute asthma...and I get bronchitis a lot so i was concerned....

Inhalable Dust
The EPA describes inhalable dust as that size fraction of dust which enters the body, but is trapped in the nose, throat, and upper respiratory tract. The median aerodynamic diameter of this dust is about 10 µm.
|
a lot of dust got stuck in my lungs...and me, having weak lungs....had a hard time with it.
sooooo the complaints are viable...it WOULD be nice to have the issue lessened if not resolved. HOWEVER....it wont keep me from going ...in fact i feel like ive already bitched about it enough hahaha |

so what, they're going to make an astroturf park, soley for this event? seriously? and do you think it'll be done in time for labor day weekend? (without disrupting any other event that might be at the park?)
even if they put down sod.....sod is just grass wrapped in dirt....you plant the sod, and the roots grow thru the thin dirt it's already attached to, and they go into the ground below (if there's dirt available). so even if sod is put down (which, have you seen how expensive sod is....and for an entire park like Randall's Island???), it's still full of dirt! and that's all we were breathing in was dirt. and maybe some drugs. i know i smelled pot within 15 mins of being in there lol.
| quote: | Sod or turf is grass and the part of the soil beneath it held together by the roots, or a piece of thin material.
The term sod may be used to mean turf grown and cut specifically for the establishment of lawns. However, in British English such material is more usually known as turf, and the word "sod" is limited mainly to agricultural senses (for example for turf when ploughed), or avoided altogether, due to the alternative offensive meaning of the word "sod".
Sod (or turf) for lawns is grown on specialist farms. It is usually grown locally to avoid long transport and drying out and heat buildup of the product. It is sold to landscapers, home builders or home owners who use it to establish a lawn quickly and avoid soil erosion. The farms that produce this grass may have many varieties of grass grown in one location to best suit the consumer's use and preference of appearance. It is usually harvested 10 to 18 months after planting, depending on the growing climate. On the farm it undergoes fertilization, frequent watering, frequent mowing and subsequent vacuuming to remove the clippings. It is harvested using specialized equipment, precision cut to standardized sizes. Sod is typically harvested in small square slabs, rolled rectangles, or large 4-foot-wide (1.2 m) rolls. Some large sod farms may export internationally. Because of the product's short life after harvest, the sod may be washed clean of the soil down to the bare roots (or sprigs) which makes shipping lighter and cheaper. Sod can be used to repair a small area of lawn that has died.[1] |
the only way to get rid of the dirt completely is concrete.
i've never been to ultra...do folks complain about the sand there? |

ive no clue how theyd fix it to be honest...and like i said- its barely worth complaining about anymore...i think 90% (if not more) of people complaining (myself included) will go next year whether or not they fix this.
and sod will be destroyed- dust will still happen with sod. |

Asthma would explain it, that sucks :(
That's why they're consulting with experts. There are absolutely ways to cut down on dust. The weather next summer will have a lot to do with it. Either way, I don't think it'll be that much of a problem next year. |
