The big companies actually disallowed the transfer of phone services a few years ago when they began their stranglehold. I remember seeing a load of those Fido plans on Ebay then

Just call Roger's customer relations to gain access to this plan, it's nothing special and it's been out for months now.

Unlimited North America Calling w/ SMS - $50.00
Unlimited Local Calling - $35

Also, no such thing as "roaming" within canada w/ Rogers. Roaming is when you jump on another carrier to gain access to Voice and Data. He ment "unzonned", no long d charges apply even if he's out of Ontario when he makes that call.

Lets get back on topic with our internet freedom pls.

I'm sorry...

I missed how you said that internet is more important then fuel...

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Japan is awesome though...

Poland is cheaper than Canada when it comes to internet, and it's faster. Plus it's unlimited (they had bandwidth caps until about 2 years ago, maybe more), and they don't throttle your connection if you're using torrents, so I dunno how accurate that image is. I also don't see how America ranks behind us. I've never, ever heard of somebody in the US having slower service than in Canada.

As for the list of countries with cheaper gas: did you actually read that list? You're comparing Canada to places like Nicaragua, Niger, Brazil, etc. We're slightly more expensive than Spain, Czech Rep, and Japan.

All this went up in Canada when Nortel kicked the bucket. Canada was the leader in so many internet categories because we had a technological innovator and builder. Those were the days.

Looks like the Liberals have joined the NDP and have gotten on board in support to reverse the CRTC's UBB ruling.
The whole issue, & now movement, have gained steam over the weekend.

As far as I'm concerned, the Liberals are as scummy as the Harper Tories when it comes to this . Pandering? I think so.

reverse it and introduce legislation that forbids any company to ever try like this again.

you said it was like water for some people...I would say that is comparing it to a necessity of life...wouldn't you?

If you have a set fee per gig then only other costs are going to be fees from the provider for administration, etc. Everyone in the world will pay the same price to download that all important Two Girls One Cup video.

Two girls one cup? Seriously? If that is what you think this conversation is about... no wonder you dont get it.

You are right I did say its like water for me and people like me, I'm guessing its not the case for others but for me I guess I missed that, my entire life will seize if I had no connection. Id be alive, but anything I've ever worked for or working on will be null and void. Is that like water? depends on how important you think your life's work is.

Now knowing that information do you actually have a point? You want standardized global internet prices?

why not have a standardized price for bandwidth usage? The more you use the more you pay....seems fair for everyone.

You seem to still miss the point where the prices are inflated. And content aware billing too.

Japan is awesome though...

That is not even close to the whole story. That is straight cost per Megabit of service. That has nothing to do with utilization or duty cycle. For the price paid, how long can you use your connection? Those rates do not include usage based billing.

Added to this, we pay around $40 for 5Mbps. But most people do not actually receive 5Mbps of usable service, due to the type of technology. Take somebody in Japan, who uses real fiber, they get what they pay for.

And traffic neutrality is another issue. By throttling encrypted traffic, or things like FTP, speed available drops even more. South Korea, 50Mbps to the door, with zero restrictions.

*Buzzer sound* try again.
