Damn, looks like your internet is going to become like what ours is here in Australia. Unlucky :p
At least it looks like you can purchase big extra blocks of bandwidth though, if you need to. We don't even have that option here. If we go over the limit, we either get charged per MB/GB over, or our speeds get throttled down to dial-up speed util the billing cycle is over. Pricks. |
It sometimes makes me wonder how in countless rankings, our respective cities get ranked as some of the most liveable in the world! |

Bell's Grandfathered High Speed Service plan 7/800
Effective February 28, 2011, there will be a change to your usage-based billing plan. An extreme usage fee of $1.00 per GB for usage exceeding 300GB per month will apply.
The highest usage level you have reached in the past six months is 746GB. Therefore, you may incur additional usage charges in the future based on this change.
If you wish to modify or cancel your services as a result of this change please call 310-SURF (7873).

PROTESTS THIS WEEK!
So the first protest is this friday purely for media coverage to expose this to the rest of canada because a lot of people dont understand how bandwidth works (they will once they see there bills after the change... takes effect feb. 1st and march 1st depending on your ISP).
Heres the facebook event page:
http://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php?eid=188341937853896
There's already over 100 people showing up and the event was just created a few hours ago.
After the initial media coverage rally, OpenMedia (the guys with the 150,000+ signatures on the official petition) are organizing a national protest across all major cities, i'm guessing this will happen outside of all Bell Headoffices and the CRTC.
The major protests is supposed to be on Monday February 21st 10:30am, a nice way for Bell employees to come back to work from their long weekends. Here's the official facebook event for the big protest:

I'd suggest to bring some molotov cocktails, but i'd save those until february 21st protest, haha. |

I'm with Bell, have 60GB a month, but unlimited for overage. This is because of an old fight I had with a Bell rep on the phone years ago who I made promise that I have unlimited internet. And so far since then I have...
I go way over that, in the summer it's 90-110GB, with Fall and Winter (started using Netflix and downloading 720/1080 movies) up around 250+.
So this means they are going to reneg on their previous promises to me?

Porky, that's some letter some dude got ... Not mine.
I use about 500+ a month without Netflix, I'm on the original unlimited plan signed before April 07. |

How about a lawsuit?
Citizens of Canada vs. Industry Canada / CRTC / Supreme Court of Canada / Bell / other people
We could always do a citizens arrest for the head of Industry Canada, the CRTC and Bell.
25 GB @ 5 Mbps = 11.37 hours :whip: (Its like 30 minutes a day of internet) |
