So much for unlimited internet ! (pg. 2)

I love Bell, a few years back, they wanted to get rid of their own unlimited plans, so they introduced new plans based on a limited amount of bandwidth.

I was grandfathered on the old plan, but they starved me out of it by restricting my bandwidth to limit my downloads to 12kb/s down and 6kb/s up, but typically found my rates being half of that.

The moment I switched over, my download and upload rates exploded to what is your average DSL speeds. But no one told me about the limit of my bandwidth, and all I found were higher charges on my monthly bill.

So really, I think it's pretty criminal that a company can:
- impose throttling simply because they aren't making enough money on people with their current plans although it goes against their own claims of service
- impose per-usage billing without informing their customer
- sit on the council that regulates the industry it itself is in the business of making money from
- make the regulations on said council to benefit their profit margins most and decrease service to the people who are 'suppost to be represented by that council

That is criminal, but wait until you try and visit your favourite page one day and it says "Access Denied - Please upgrade to premium package to view this site". That's what the sad part of all this really is. 95% of people won't be affected by these bandwidth caps so there won't be enough voices to make a difference. But these internet restrictions are merely paving the way for a much more invasive/costly/annoying way of charging us for internet. When that takes place you'll get the voices you need but it'll be too late as the precedence will already be set.

Wha, really? them and these regulations. Especially where the telecom giants sit on the panel/council that REGULATES the industry. Screw you! I posted/signed that petition, it will do jack but all we can do is try.

Again big business making unilateral, arbitrary decisions and there is very little consumer protection thanks to a spineless regulatory body and federal gov't.

If I switch, I'll be paying $700.00 / month more for my habits.

There's a provider from the Waterloo are that has unlimited cable with 15MBit downloads (better than the 5Mb I'm getting with DSL from Velcom). They said they were coming to Brampton early this year. Me thinks there's a chance this won't happen now. :(
