I'm not saying I agree with their gov. Just that revolution is a kind of war and one of their weapons was taken away...
What that has to do with how we're being charged is beyond me though.. |
it's not a right yet. but once we get rid of all the old people in government, it will be.
of course it has lots to do with what we are being charged. just like they aren't allowed to shut off your hydro in the middle of winter, they will not be able to shut of your internet either. some countries are trying this tactic and it won't work. people will fight back.
just because you don't understand the future doesn't mean that it's not going to come. |

yeah, i dunno about this. but from what i understand, it works differently in non-developed countries. not every home has a connection but people share one for a village or something. just like a whole village shares a phone. |
Margs, those stats are for people using the internet, not household access.
Incidentally, 40% of the world's population does not have indoor plumbing... I would consider that a bit more of a priority. |

yes and no.
they don't have plumbing because they don't understand why it's important. if they had internet, they could learn the fact that ting in your drinking water is bad.
or learn how to build wells.
internet is more useful than you think. many people think of it as just an entertainment tool that isn't good for anything but it could really change the lives of many people if they have access to it.
knowledge is power too. |

yes, me and other very smart people in the tech industry are.
something that runs on wires to your home and makes your life easier and more productive. that's exactly what electricity is. and so is internet.
there will come a point when every piece of equipment in your house will have internet access. working in the background to make your life easier. |

Yep. I'd also go so far as to say the internet is as big an invention in education/spreading knowledge (in general terms here) as the printing press was. |

Electricity is exactly about making our lives easier and more convenient???
It's not more about keeping us warm in the winter???
Cooking our food???
Jesus you ppl and your priorities... |

| as long as people keep thinking life will not go on without internet the longer you will complain that the price is too high. Companies will continue to charge what they can get away with. If people really want to protest then get at least 80% of the people with internet to cancel their internet.....see what deals you get then. |

Margs, they don't have plumbing because the infrastructure is not in place, not because they are unaware that ting in drinking water is a bad move. The point here is that you can't go making luxuries like the internet a right when people don't even have basic sanitation.
Any argument that internet is or should be a right is pure folly as there are far more pressing issues. So we're left with the internet being a luxury service, as such it should be priced according to market forces, which brings me back to my initial position: unless people are going to cancel their service due to price increases then the prices are not too high. |

dude, you are such a cro-magnon. no offense. lol.
yes, it is about making things easier. before electricity people used coal and wood to keep warm. and fire to cook food. electricity came along and made things easier. so you could spend your time thinking about other things and not worrying about heat and food.
ever hear of the war of the currents? people back then had the same outlook about electricity as you have about internet. we all could have had free electricity but edison started a campaign saying that it would destroy us. so thanks to people that can't think outside the box, we are stuck with the backwards electricity system we have now.
i don't think we should make that happen with internet too. |
