I'd still encourage anyone who is on Bell/Rogers to drop them and switch to the smaller guys. Reasons:
-Even if you don't hit your bandwidth cap you can still rest easy knowing you never will.
-Their unlimited price plans are still cheaper than most capped Rogers/Bell plans.
-Uncomparable customer service (take Bell vs TekSavvy for example).
-It's making a statement that you don't stand for the full on wallet raping they love to give a justify.
Just my 2 cents... |
I hate Bell, I really do... a pain in the arse! But... I stick my internet with them because of the bundle packages, phone, longdistance and BellExpressvu.... AND BEFORE ANYONE SAYS ANYTHING... I live oustide the city in a county area where I cannot get cable, so for internet, homephone, tv etc, I need to stay with Bell. :whip:
Any savings I would get with TekSavvy or whomever, would be lost by the extra charges I would have with my other services. Not to mention, I already have unlimited and maxed out to the highest speeds for my area which is...
I would love to have an alternative, but $$$ is dollars! |

Relative to the standards of broadband internet in canada, YES. But relative to the rest of the world, definitely not.
My internet went down the other day, twice and then stayed down for a couple days. I called bell (i have reasons for being with them, i'll explain in a bit) and gave them a bit of hell, i wasnt a dick or anything but i was stern. Heres how it went:
'yeah my internet is down, and i need it fixed.'
'when did this happen?'
'three days ago so im calling now'
then i said 'well just under a week ago i got a very nice letter from bell stating my unlimited bandwidth plan will be downgraded to 300gb. I find this a slap to the face for anyone with a fast connection, but since my connection speed is , im never going to reach 300gb in a month anyway, but i feel SORRY for anyone else that does use more bandwidth'
So with some talking about the chick (yah, tech support, couldnt take her seriously so i had to be nice to a chick, lol) she checked up on all of my stuff and was able to improve my connection to 1.0mbit up from 512kbit. Thats a lot relatively speaking, its twice the speed but its still SLOW.
Anyway, I've been with bell's unlimited plan for a long time and now that the 300gb cap is going into effect and 25gb cap for teksavvy, I may actually stay with bell. 300gb with UBB is a lot, even with my connection speed I'd rather have it.
If UBB gets reversed, im dumping bell both at home and at work for Teksavvy (teksavvy will be at work regardless, its a new plan so UBB has already taken effect).
I wonder though, with the actual costs for bell per gigabyte being so low and bell wanting to charge $2.00 for overage charges, how does a commission like the CRTC allow such profiteering? Are they technologically inept? If they are, what the are they doing as CRTC members? Do they only understand the business side of the broadband market or do they actually know what words like bandwidth, data, mbits, etc?
They seem completely out of touch, and if theyre not, there should be an investigation into the CRTC as to the relationship between them and their former employers, its a clear case of conflict of interest. More interesting is the fact that 11 of the 14 members were appointed by stephen harper himself. A conservative appointed commission to help the public in the telecommunications market. Does that not sound like a joke? |

He should urge everyone to boycott bell and ask the government to put in new ISPs.

I had those speeds a couple years back with ADSL2+, which bell gave me by accident. This is essentially the new Bell "Fibe" service. Thats why they didn't call it fiber, because it ain't. |

Office in Montreal... ISP in D.C

I wonder if I had 4 lines with ADSL2+ (MLPPP) if it would really come out to 12MBps (down)/0.5 MBps (up) with unlimited bandwidth, but it be like $140/month :/ At that speed you can download a 700 MB movie in like 59 seconds. 30 minute tv show in 15 seconds  I guess they don't want people downloading 29 TB of data per month = 1160 BD movies) |
