What Rogers and Bell have done is ing disgusting. The CRTC's decision is only for the benefit of their former employers, someones clearly paid off here.
Next, with the advance of high definition video, how the is a significantly lower bandwidth supposed to help and progress technology? At normal download speed of 500kbps, you'll reach 60gb of your bandwidth limit in about 5 hours. Thats right, your paying 40+ dollars a month for 5 hours AT BEST of internet. Do they charge us based on how many hours of TV we watch? NO. So why the do we get a limit on how much information we download? The cost per gigabyte of transfers for both bell and rogers is about 1-3 cents. Theyre now marking this up with the new amazing Canadian Regulation to about 2 dollars.... or... 200 cents. That is an INSANE markup, 6,600% to be exaxt. They made the claim that the pricing and cap helps to relieve their bandwidth strains and pay for costs.
BULL.
They dont have any overhead costs, once the lines are installed its a fixed cost. Theyre only in on this to make more money and usage based billing is a dream come true for the corporate swine for Rogers and Bell.
I seriously hope I see ing riots, I'm tired of Canadians just being passive pussies. This Country is a joke. For a first world nation we have third world communications technologies and prices.
If any of you actually give a , unlike the typical passive Canadian that never stands up to governance, DO SOMETHING about it;

Took the words right out of my mouth. The CRTC is a joke and works for the big companies. They rule in favor of the consumer once in a while to look like they give a . Small concessions for big gains for their Bell/Rogers friends. |

CRTC Commissioners and Secretary General
Here are some people with the CRTC. Notice their past employers?
Leonard (Len) Katz
Vice-Chairman, Telecommunications
"he spent 17 years within the Rogers Group of Companies, where he held various positions in the regulatory, intercarrier services and business development fields of wireless and cable services. This experience led to the position of President, Rogers Business Solutions, which he occupied until 2001"
CANDICE J. MOLNAR
Regional Commissioner for Manitoba and Saskatchewan
"Having spent over two decades at SaskTel..."
I wonder if they have a vested interest in having UBB? |

Stuff like that should be illegal. If you worked for a major corporation, you shouldn't be in a government position. Plus who hired these people? If its a government job, they should be elected. |

It appears that its a government run organization:

The people I found are the tip of the ice berg. I wouldn't be surprised if there are more with ties to the big three working at the CRTC.
EDIT:
The CRTC’s senior roles are Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson of Broadcasting and Vice-Chairperson of Telecommunications. These are full-time positions. With the new Lobbying Act, active from July 2, 2008, all of these senior positions are designated public office holders.
There can be up to 13 full-time and 6 part-time Commissioners. All Commissioners are appointed by Cabinet.

There's a provider from the Waterloo are that has unlimited cable with 15MBit downloads (better than the 5Mb I'm getting with DSL from Velcom). They said they were coming to Brampton early this year. Me thinks there's a chance this won't happen now. :( |
Whos the provider from Waterloo? |

I don't disagree with you... but it doesn't make sense pointing out people with media experience working for the media watchdog.
It's kinda normal hiring people with experience for jobs. |

Sure but make sure there's regulation to prevent conflict of interest which this probably is.
In this and many cases with corporations there is no thought to "Which is good for us AND the consumers", just "What is good for us".
Something similar to what was said in "a beautiful mind" when applied to wider economics. |
