i was tired that friday night cuz i didnt sleep thursday night on the flight to portland and then we went straight to ride so yea i was tired...worked all day thursday, had to take the subway with all my bags to ryans place in forest hills, then wax our boards, then lay down for like an hour so basically no sleep from thursy morn to friday night with riding inbetween...
what I DO want to know is wtf happened after GI Joes, all I remember was it was raining and we was on the highway, next thing I know I wake up to...yo we need to get gas...i was so knocked out for that drive i dont remember ...stop feeding me sedatives without me knowing, atleast tell me so i can enjoy them!
ps-I also remember you trying to side swipe the minicooper on our way to GI Joes...road hog! |

Nightlife, can I drive to vancouver and back in 1 day, whats the fastest route, any recommendations in vancouver to party, to smoke, to chill. Any good steak houses? restaurant recommendations?
You know the real stuff I can't find online or through someone elses comments. I ask because it seems you have been to whistler enough to know the nity-grity and thats the stuff i need to be informed about.
As per where to stay, money isn't an issue. My range I'm looking at an 8 person cabin (we'll rent 2 SUVs), situated in an area that is close to where everything is happening, far enough away to have some piece and quiet at night (some seclusion is always nice), close enough to hit the lifts, and not further than having to drive EVERYWHERE. Driving I don't mind, just if we could walk it I'd prefer that. Whats the DUI out there? Say I'm out drinking and I need to drive back, of course the standard rule is don't do it, but can I be safe enough to say oh it's about a 10min drive back I don't need to worry? What about parking by the bars? No free parking you say, is there municipals? lots?
Food - what type of food do they have? is there chain restaurants? home-style mom-n-pop diners? on-the-go waffle haus, fast food, etc?
LOL ok I realize I asked for a lot and I don't expect you to answer everything, but these are the type of things I'd like to know about and not generally be 'sold' on going there because as any of us in this thread I'm already sold on riding the mountain, I want to know about the stay and what will maximize my chilling experience.

definately didn't take it the wrong way. Your question was kind of vague so my response wasn't very focused.
BTW, www.whistler.com is not the resort site, it is a sales agent. Its a good place to start for places. I wouldn't have a clue where to look for cabins. The resorts website is www.whistlerblackcomb.com. I've been plenty of places myself and would never commit that sin.
I used vrbo for a house in vermont. I don't think its going to be that helpful for whistler because most of the privately owned condos are rented out by management companies. The condo owners don't really have a say in renting out the units. Also, there's a large market for whistler condos. You get deals on vrbo where there isn't a well established market for rentals, such as NH.
Where to stay: I can only tell you that i've only stayed in the north village. I think its secluded enough but still close enough to walk to everything. The north village is pretty quiet at night, but by no means will you be able to throw a crazy party, people will complain. As far as cabins, couldn't tell you, like i said i do the condo thing. Sorry can't help with the cabin thing.
Driving: There are municipal lots that you have to pay to park in. Im not sure how much the parking is. You can also park in the market in the north village if you're going out at night. If your lodging is too far from the mountain to walk, there are buses to take you to the village. The buses run day and night. I remember seeing people waiting for the buses after the bars were closing down. Im not 100% on that but im definately leaning towards yes they were runnning late. I also think the buses run on the main highway, but not 100%.
Cops: I didn't drive when i went out so i don't know what the cops are like on the Sea to Sky (the only road to and from whistler). However there was definately a cop presence in the village at night. They weren't dicks though and were pretty laid back, even when some drunk dudes were fighting.
Food: There's everything. There are italian places, japanese, mongolian, steakhouses, burger spots, pubs, etc.... Most of the places are upscale restaurants or pubs. There are also fast food places, but no TGI fridays or anything like that. I wish i could give you some recommendations but i simply don't remember the names of the places i went to. The one place I think i went to was actually called, 'the pub'. I had a banging teriyaki steak. The mongolian place was also off the chain (theres only one mongolian place so no name is needed) Im guessing that every place had quality food. Not once did i eat at a restaurant and not like the food. So you'll get good food where ever you eat. Most of the restaurant are $$$ so you'll probably get some good .
Bars: Obviously its not NY, but the nightlife is pretty good for a little town in the middle of nowhere. The places I remember were called Tommy Africas and Garfunkles. Tommy Africas was trying to be a club, but was way too small, and i remember hearing NSync. Garfunkles was more like a bar and was playing hip hop and rock. Both places were packed. In NY they would be , but in the middle of the wood, they were pretty decent. A major plus is all of the euro and aussie girls. Also, there are any number of cool little bars lining the village walkways. Some of the better bars are located at the base of the gondolas. I can't remember the names but you'll know them when you see them, they are absolutely packed to the gils. One place at the base was Irish themed, and had several pool tables. It was a pretty chill spot.
Other substances: If you need trees or any other illicit substance just wait for a teenager to walk by you in the village. After sunset, every ten minutes someone will offer it to you.
Vancouver: Its about a two hour ride, so i guess you can make the decision whether its worth going back and forth. I will tell you that the route is somewhat treacherous and i wouldn't drive it if i was drinking. The road is also very foggy because it hugs the pacific for about an hour and a half. BTW, its a drive you should definately try to do in the day. Probably the most amazing scenery. BTW, you asked whats the best route....well....there's only one route, the sea-to-sky highway.
Terrain (This I can go on for hours): There is so much i still haven't hit it all, hopefully i will in March.
Bowls chutes and cirques: (Whistler Peak) My personal favorite was west bowl on whistler mountain. Take the peak chair on whistler mountain and your absolutely in heaven. You can go to whistler bowl, sun bowl, and several chutes and cirques. A pretty hairy cirque where i almost my pants looking down was 'the cirque.' It is narrow (about 5 feet wide) and steep (+60 degrees). Also, the sun bowl and flute bowl, both on whistler were good. Which ever bowl you choose there are many cliff of varying height to throw yourself off of. Something if you haven't done, is probably my favorite part of riding.
(BLackcomb): If you like extreme, try these four runs. Jersey Cream Bowl, Couloir, Packololo, and Big Bang. To get there take the 7th heaven lift. These runs are definately not for a punk. My boy punked out at the top of Couloir and had to walk back to get to an easier trail. These runs are riddled with rocks, steeps, and cliffs.
(Backcountry): If you take the showcase TBar to the top of Blackcomb mountain you can access the backcountry. To get to some pristine terrain walk around the backside of blackcomb peak. You'll see many people hiking up the backside and around to the other side of the valley (behind blackcomb peak). From the other side of blackcomb peak people split into several directions and do one of several things: (1) go to the backside of the mountain on the far side of the valley and hit some intense backcountry (you will get lost doing this and have no way back to the terrain except to hike back up), (2) go to the otherside of the valley and ski back down into the valley and back to the lift lines (which are about 3 miles away), (3) hike to the top of blackcomb peak and ski down the backside into the valley and down to the lift line, or (4) hike up any number of different spots on either side of the valley wall and ski back down to the lift lines. Any way you go you will be in for a real treat. I know this was slightly confusing, but just remember you can access the backcountry from Blackcomb peak at the Showcase TBar. You will know your in the backcountry because there will be huge signs telling you.
Trees: My favorite tree runs were on blackcomb mountain accessible from a trail called exressway. The names of the glades runs were: raptors ride, wheres joe, watch out, and yard sale. Anyone of these runs was better and more difficult than anyhing east of colorado. The trees were nicely spaced, the snow was deep, and the terrain was relatively steep. Definately hit up those four runs, i simply can't express how good these trails were.
On whistler mountain there really aren't any designated glades runs, but there are some good runs. From whistler peak you go down a run called, grand finale. The run goes from the peak into a valley and you can hit up the trees on the fringe of the run, which is kind of up the sides of the valley walls. Its definately a fun run. You can also jump off of some rocks and the cat paths.
Terrain Parks (My personal favorite): The best park was definately "nintendo terrain park" leading into "highest level Terrain park" on blackcomb mountain. Nintendo terrain park has some intermediate and large features: Hips, step downs, step ups, rainbow rails, flat boxes, anything you could want. Highest level terrain park is absolutely sick. The smallest jump is no less than 30-40 feet. If your not into jumping 20 feet in the air for 50 feet its something else to watch other people doing it. There are also some good learing terrain parks with small features. Even though the features were probably too small, the 'Big Easy terrain gardens' was pretty fun. There were small rollers, boxes, rails, and table tops.
The park on whistler, "habitat terrain park" was probably better than any park i've been to, with the exception of mammoth and brighton, but it doesn't stack up to the parks on blackcomb.
Hope this is more of what you were looking for. Let me know if you want to know anything else.

jerz - that's exactly what i was looking for. I appreciate the time you took to jot all that down! We should go ride some time, probably nothing worth hitting on the east but if there is a weekend when we are out in PA or VT, we should try to link up. Think I can learn alot from you, that is if you're willing to babysit a group of boarders lol.
I learned riding with people who've been riding longer than you really puts you on the edge and pushes you to try and learn new things. It's always fun to ride with friends on the same level, but its something else to ride with someone who's been doing this for years on end.

No problem at all. I actually enjoyed writing it, it brought back some fond memories.
Right now im actually writing this in CHicago waiting for my flight to SLC so I can hit up Brighton and SNowbird. I am always down to go snowboarding so that would be cool. I don't do PA, but VT or upstate NY are definately something Im down with. I also have a season pass to MC. I can't wait until they open up the parks so that it won't be so packed.
